John Clayton notes:

The second-most mentioned name is Saints reserve Michael Bennett. Bennett signed with the Saints to be a backup, but they ended up with Reggie Bush in the draft, so Bennett needs to move on. The Texans, Dolphins and several other teams are interested, but the talks have been slow.

From the official site:

Broussard played with Cologne of the NFL Europe League this past spring after spending all of 2005 on the Bengals’ practice squad. With Cologne, he caught a team-high 24 passes, totaling 262 yards, while also returning 11 punts for a 9.9-yard average and four kickoffs for a 19.8-yard average.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

Mark Cuban is known for baiting NBA officials, and Dan Marino is the most prolific passer in NFL history. But the Pittsburgh natives now want to expand into a different sport in their hometown -- hockey.

The two have joined with a New York City financier in trying to buy the NHL's Penguins from Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux's group, which is selling the two-time Stanley Cup champions even as the team seeks a new arena deal.

Christopher Harris at Yahoo! Sports has come up with the Offensive Juggernaut Index. He places the Dolphins 13th, saying:

Out with the old, in with the new. Pretty much all of Miami's eggs are riding on Culpepper's reconstructed knee, but he reportedly looks great and I expect him to have a big year with WR Chris Chambers. RB Ronnie Brown may not play much better than last year (when he was pretty good), but he'll be much more valuable from a fantasy perspective without Williams around. Nick Saban did his best to re-shape an o-line that struggled mightily in the red zone in '05: Shelton is massive, and Pearson adds depth, plus the team re-signed C Seth McKinney, who missed much of last year with a knee injury. It's certainly not a top-10 line, but I like the potential for an improved passing game here, slightly better balance (meaning a bit more running) and the weak-ish schedule, too.

According to Sun-Sentinel.com:

A Davie man accused of assaulting Dolphins linebacker Jason Taylor during a road-rage incident pleaded not guilty Monday to a battery/hate-crime charge in Broward Circuit Court. ...

Burns is accused of cutting Taylor, 31, on the arm with a metal object after forcing him off the road with his truck at Southwest 130th Avenue and Eighth Street on April 30. Burns allegedly used racial slurs and obscenities and threatened to kill Taylor, who was cut on his left forearm as he backed away from Burns.

From SportingNews:

QB Joey Harrington has looked somewhat inconsistent during his first few weeks with the Dolphins and has sustained the reputation he established during his four seasons in Detroit. The Dolphins are going to be patient with him, but some of the coaches are troubled by his tendency to get flustered when plays break down.

Dolphins GM meets with linebacker Ahmad Brooks:

The Dolphins have taken an interest in former University of Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks, who is considered by many the top player available in the NFL's supplemental draft on July 13.

Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller and director of college scouting Ron Labadie were among those who attended Brooks' workout Thursday.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

Williams had the kind of debut one would expect an elite NFL back to have in the CFL, rushing for 97 yards on 18 carries in the Toronto Argonauts' 27-17 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before 27,689 fans Saturday at the Rogers Centre. The former Heisman Trophy winner played a perfect decoy early while setting up the play-action pass, then rushed for 72 yards in the fourth quarter to help seal the game.

Williams didn't score, but it wasn't for a lack of trying by his coach, Michael Clemons.

With the game in the waning seconds and the Argonauts up comfortably, Williams got two carries inside the 10-yard line to try to put him over 100 yards or give him a touchdown.

John Clayton has an article detailing what to expect from Ricky in the CFL:

He's a big back in a league built for little backs. His Toronto Argonauts teammate, John Avery, a former first-round pick of the Miami Dolphins, is better suited for CFL play because Avery is smaller and more elusive. Williams earned Pro Bowl votes because of his ability to run inside the tackles and wear down defenses.

But in a league of three-down football, inside running isn't essential. Despite that, Williams should be a success in the CFL because he's one of the most talented players and he's dedicated when he's on the practice field. Will he dominate? Probably not. Will he succeed? Almost assuredly.

From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:

Anderson now has two less offensive linemen to compete against for a roster spot, as the Dolphins waived centers Dominic Furio and Chris McNeil. Furio, a 2004 seventh-round draft choice by Philadelphia, joined the team in May after being claimed off waivers from the Eagles. McNeil, a rookie college free agent from Mississippi State, quit the team in May. Neither player was at last weekend's minicamp.

Anderson, 29, will be joining his third different franchise in three seasons, having played four seasons for the Baltimore Ravens before signing with Buffalo as an unrestricted free agent last summer. The recent itinerant streak, however, is not a true reflection of Anderson's value.

In an interview on Sun-Sentinel.com, Saban mentioned:

Q: Any update on Marty Booker?

A: "We did x-rays on Marty. He has no significant problems. He does have a pretty good sprained ankle, but I think he's going to be fine. He might be out for a few days. Renaldo Hill -- I call him Naddi -- and that's what I said yesterday about him having a sprained ankle, too. We recruited that kid at Michigan State and that was his little league name so that's what I call him because I've known him since he was 16 years old. His brother Ray Hill played for us at Michigan State too, so I've really known him since he was 14, and that's what his brother calls him. So nobody here knows him by that name except me. I have to explain that one. He also had an x-ray. He has a less significant ankle sprain. He'll probably be OK in a day or two."

Jeff Darlington reports from minicamp:

Get ready for big things from Ronnie Brown. Seriously, this guy did not mess around this off-season. Believe it or not, he looks even bigger than before – and even faster. Brown clearly added a few pounds of muscle in the off-season, and I’m convinced he knows there’s some added pressure for him to stay healthy in the absence of Ricky Williams. Brown had a nice rookie season, but I think he’s capable of much, much more. I’ve talked to several former NFL running backs who talk about how different a player sees the field from his rookie season to his second year, and I believe that will be the case with Brown, too. He’s big. He’s fast. And as long as he can stay healthy, he’s going to be one bad man...

QB Culpepper shows a (flea-)flicker of what to expect:

Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper jumped up and punched the air in joy after watching his perfectly lofted 50-yard pass fall into the waiting hands of Fred Gibson for a touchdown to cap off a three-day minicamp on a drizzly Sunday morning.

The flea-flicker began with a pitchout to running back Ronnie Brown, who then gave it back to Culpepper. It's a scenario that fans and players hope to see on Sunday afternoons all season long with a healthy Culpepper directing the offense.

"Culpepper, he's better in person than he is on Madden," said cornerback Travis Daniels, referring to the popular video game named for former Raiders coach John Madden.

Len Pasquarelli at ESPN.com reports:

He caught five passes in the team segments of the workout, two of them under duress, one on which he nestled down between a pair of defenders in the middle of the field, and latched on to a bullet delivered by free agent rookie quarterback Justin Holland. Vick lined up at quarterback for a few snaps and, while he looks perilously tiny in the pocket, completed one pass. Vick also fielded punts.

That's precisely the kind of job description the Dolphins envision for Vick, who is listed on the roster as a WR/QB/Spec in NFL shorthand. Do a lot of things, try to make a little progress every day, and develop perhaps as a gimmick guy for new coordinator Mike Mularkey, an inveterate trick-play schemer with a deep bag of gadget plays.

Booker recovering from sprained ankle:

Receiver Marty Booker, who was carted off the field Saturday after spraining his left ankle while diving for a pass, didn't practice Sunday, however, Dolphins coach Nick Saban said that X-rays revealed that there were no, "significant problems.''

Another one:

The Rex Hadnot to center is no longer an experiment. It's a done deal with his predecessor Seth McKinney moving over to right guard. McKinney played three games at left guard in his first two seasons in the league before starting all 16 games at center in 2004 and the first 13 games there last season before an injury forced the shift to Hadnot.

“I’m getting more comfortable there as time goes by,’’ McKinney said. “Anytime you're putting down a different hand, it's going to be more of an adjustment. Right guard and center are not too big of an adjustment. The assignments are the only difference pretty much.’’

Saban said the McKinney move is still in its experimental stages.

Wright moves to nose tackle:

Manny Wright has changed his position.

Now, he just needs to change his weight.

Wright said Saturday that he has been moved from defensive tackle to nose tackle permanently to work behind veteran starter Keith Traylor. He also said that he gained more than 20 pounds during two months at home this offseason but has lost much of the weight while getting in shape.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

One play after quarterback Daunte Culpepper elicited gasps from a few hundred fans by diving on top of a fumble during a two-minute drill in Saturday's morning session of this weekend's minicamp, he hit a diving Marty Booker over the middle for what could be a costly completion. ...

Booker, who beat safety Travares Tillman on the play, remained on the ground in obvious pain. He was carted off the field with what Saban thinks is a sprained left ankle. Booker left the facility for further evaluation.

"Marty is not really hurt bad," Saban said. "How many times a day do I say stay off the ground? We don't want receivers diving for the ball. We don't want defensive backs going over the top and knocking them down to try and get a ball. Obviously, that's not ever going to be 100 percent. We want players in competitive situations to especially play smart."

Jeff Darlington mentioned that Saban met with reporters and said it was not serious.

DT Wilkinson makes free-agent visit:

Defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson had a free agent visit Thursday with the Dolphins, a source said.

If signed, Wilkinson would likely replace Keith Traylor as the Dolphins' starting nose tackle. Traylor will be 37 entering the regular season and was arrested last month on charges of driving under the influence and illegal possession of a prescription drug in Oklahoma.

Jeff Darlington and Harvey Fialkov both report that Daunte looked good on Friday. From Darlington:

As for his throwing arm, let’s just say there’s nothing hurting about that. Culpepper got the biggest applaud from a modest crowd when he threaded a 20-yard pass to Marty Booker. A perfectly timed, perfectly smooth completion.

Must not get excited.

Phil Barber at SportingNews has a couple of articles out today praising the Dolphins. In one, he grades the offseason's of all teams. The Dolphins are listed first, getting the highest grade he gave:

Dolphins: The whopper was the trade for Daunte Culpepper, who likely will be the Dolphins' best quarterback since Dan Marino. Perhaps more important, the volume of serviceable newcomers -- guys such as tackle L.J. Shelton, linebacker Keith Newman and cornerback Will Allen -- gives coach Nick Saban a much deeper roster. Grade: A

In the other, he lists the five best and worst moves of the offseason:

BEST

...

2. Dolphins acquire Daunte Culpepper and Joey Harrington. Culpepper is recovering from a knee injury and has been acting curiously. Harrington was a bust in Detroit. Still, for the price of a second-round draft pick and a low conditional pick, Miami got two quarterbacks who were chosen in the top 11 picks in the draft, and they likely will benefit from changes in scenery.
