Florida Today has an article on Wes Welker: Wes Welker was talking to his girlfriend on the phone when a commercial for the new John Madden football video game came on. "What team is that?" Welker asked. "Oh, that's us." The star of the commercial, new Miami Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper, is shown throwing a touchdown pass and doing his patented "get your roll on" celebration. But wait. . . "Who's that little white guy running around?" Welker asked his girlfriend. "Wait a second . . . that's me." Via FinHeaven. 09/30: 9/30/06: Injury Report

From The Post & Courier:
"It's going to be healing for all of us," said Buoniconti, who will have his jersey retired at halftime of Saturday's game with Chattanooga at Johnson Hagood Stadium. "What's really impacting me about all of this is that I didn't realize how much it meant to my former teammates. Via FinHeaven.

Kevin Lerner reports on a decidely testy exchange between Coach Saban and the media over Randy McMichael and the media treatment of the Dolphins in general. "Now you want to ask another bad question, ask it, because I'm about ready to jump on somebody's . . . " Saban said as he motioned to his throat. "Go ahead, ask one. You want to do it? Go ahead."
09/27: Criticize Coach Saban?
Posted by: Patrick
From PalmBeachPost.com:
What would happen if a Dolphins player criticized Nick Saban the way Jeremy Shockey did to Giants coach Tom Coughlin? "To coach Saban? Yeah, right. And work where? The National Guard (would) come in and take that man away. That's something I wouldn't even think about. That's crazy. Not coach Saban. No." — C Rex Hadnot lol.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:
Dolphins second-year defensive tackle Manny Wright, who is ineligible to play this season, has returned to college in California, agent Peter Schaffer said Monday.
Schaffer said Wright wants to play football in the future but felt it was best to leave South Florida because he "did not want to be a distraction to the team."

According to Sun-Sentinel.com, both players should return to practice this week.
09/24: Dolphins Get 1st Win!
Posted by: Patrick
The drought is over. :) We topped the Titans by the score of 13-10. Daunte was 17 of 26 for 168 yards and 0 TDs and 0 INTs. He had a TD pass taken away from him when he hit Chris Chambers in front of he end zone in the third quarter. Chambers fought and fell around the goal line. The first signal was a touchdown, but after a quick conference, that call was changed and the ball was placed at/inside the 1. This led to a 5 yard Culpepper TD run. Ronnie Brown ran for 90 yards on 26 carries with his longest being a 27 yard dash. He also had 2 catches for 10 yards. While his numbers aren't huge, his consistent ability to get at least a few yards a carry and to turn negative plays into short or no gains was a difference maker in this game and the reason Miami had 10 minutes more time of possession. He ran in punishing fashion and the D laid into him, but he kept getting up. Great effort. Chambers took an end around 39 yards while Booker took one 18 yards. Wes Welker led all receivers with 5 catches and 59 yards receiving. Chambers had 4 catches for 39 yards, Booker had 2 for 36. Mare hit field goals from 39 and 40, while missing one from 30. Donnie Jones continued his strong performance by averaging 52.7 yards over 6 punts. Channing Crowder (2 assists) and Zach Thomas (3 assists) each had 6 tackles while Keith Traylor had 2 sacks. Thomas had an interception in the first quarter. Jason Taylor got to Kerry Collins, hitting him as he threw. The ball wobbled directly into Thomas' hands. It led to a field goal. Travis Daniels made a huge pick on a tipped ball in the 4th quarter to seal the deal. We head to Houston next week for a 1:00 PM ET game next Sunday. 09/24: 9/24/06: Injury Report

Here is the injury report for tomorrow's game: Titans: Out: TE Erron Kinney (Knee) and DE Antwan Odom (Knee). Questionable: T Jacob Bell (Toe), RB Chris Brown (Toe), FB Ahmard Hall (Ankle), RB Travis Henry (Toe), CB Reynaldo Hill (Knee), MLB Robert Reynolds (Thigh) and DT Robaire Smith (Hamstring). Dolphins: Out: G Joe Berger (Foot). Questionable: WR Marty Booker (Ankle), CB Travis Daniels (Ankle) and OLB Derrick Pope (Hamstring). Booker will play and it is looking like Daniels will, as well, but it'll be a game time decision. 09/20: Guard Will Whitticker Signed
Posted by: Patrick
According to Alex Marvez: Whitticker, who started 14 games for Green Bay last season, was released by the Packers during the preseason. A 2005 seventh-round draft choice from Michigan State, Whitticker had a free-agent workout with the Dolphins 11 days ago.

Sun-Sentinel.com reports that Bennie Anderson will miss the rest of the season.
"It's such a shame. Bennie worked so hard to get his weight down,'' said Anderson's agent Harold Lewis. "It's always something. The muscle wasn't totally torn from the bone. With rehabilitation he could possibly make it back for the playoffs, but it looks like they're putting him on injured reserve.''

From Sun-Sentinel.com:
Dolphins starting right guard Bennie Anderson tore his right triceps muscle and is out indefinitely, coach Nick Saban said Monday.

Well, folks, we're 0-2.
J.P. Losman had just 83 yards passing. They had 13 more rushing yards than us. And we lost. Daunte was 23 of 32 for 250 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Those numbers really don't sound that bad, do they? But, the fact is, they are misleading. Those yards came in the earlier parts of drives with the Dolphins showing little ability to finish off drives with any points - even field goals. The protection was, well, not great. Daunte was sacked 7 times and he fumbled twice (neither fumble was lost, though), one of them coming on a Gary Yepremianesque ball slip. For passing for 250 yards and rushing for 92, the offense just seemed kind of sluggish. It wasn't until 1:54 in the 4th quarter that we saw some real brillance when Daunte and Chambers connected on a 23 yard bullet touchdown pass. Well thrown with a terrific, terrific catch where Chambers dove to make the tough catch, but didn't even give the refs an opportunity to overturn the call because it was that clean. What took so long? This is what we need to do in the first quarter, send Chambers out and let Daunte hit him. Get it open early. Establish the run, I know... but, we've got a QB with an arm now. Airing it out can help the run, anyway. Ronnie Brown ran fairly well, although he only got 15 carries in all. They netted him 70 yards, for an average of 4.6. Lee Suggs ran for 12 yards on 3 carries. Chambers had only 4 catches for 55 yards. Ronnie had 6 for 52. Wes had 5 for 41. McMichael had 3 for 34. Booker had 3 for 33. Mare missed his only attempt, from 55 yards. Donnie Jones punted very well (edit: with the exception of a blocked punt), hitting 6 for an average of 47.2 with 1 in the 20. Vonnie Holiday led all defenders with 5 tackles. Yeremiah Bell and Kevin Carter each had a sack. We were penalized 12 times for 75 yards (50 yards of that coming on a pass interference call where Will Allen mugged Lee Evans, who had him beat in the end zone). Not a very fun game to watch (for Dolphins fans, anyway). We didn't score a single point until 1:51 left in the game and that was it. We played good defense, but our offense was ineffective too many times that it needed to be effective. Next week we'll be playing host to Tennessee at 1:00 PM on Sunday.

From Dave Hyde:
They don't ask if his life of being the NFL's first black quarterback, then quickly its first black ex-quarterback, then quickly a star receiver and just as quickly forgotten and on the streets -- no one asks if that life is real or if it's why he's on TV. "Is there really a Marlin Briscoe High School?" is what the kids he works with at the Boys' and Girls' Club in Long Beach, Calif ., ask. By now, Briscoe didn't think anyone remembered him besides the likes of Joe Namath, who never calls him by name when they meet. "The Quarterback," Namath calls him, showing he remembers. But Nike remembering? You can watch the commercial at YouTube.

Long snapper John Denney's brother, Ryan Denney, is a defensive end for the Bills. According to Sun-Sentinel.com:
The parents of Dolphins long snapper John Denney and Buffalo backup defensive end Ryan Denney will attend Sunday's game. But John Denney said his brother Brett will receive the most attention in 2006. Brett is entering his freshman season as a defensive lineman for Brigham Young University, which is closer to the parents' Denver-area home. "My parents do a great job of supporting us," said John Denney. "They can only hit so many games. But the Buffalo-Miami game is one of them." Via FinHeaven & Co.

According to Alex Marvez, we've brought in TE Jason Rader from the practice squad and waived TE Tim Massaquoi.
09/16: 9/16/06: Injury Report
Posted by: Patrick
This is what the injury report looks like: Buffalo: Out: FS Troy Vincent (Hamstring). Questionable: SS Matt Bowen (Shin) and OLB Takeo Spikes (Hamstring). Miami: Out: G Joe Berger (Foot). Questionable: CB Travis Daniels (Ankle). 09/16: Zach Thomas Fined
Posted by: Patrick
Armando Salguero reports that Zach Thomas will be fined $5,000 by the NFL for a hit on Charlie Batch. If I recall, there was a play where Charlie Batch was sliding and Zach Thomas hit him. I bet that's it. But, it wasn't a penalty during the game, either. I don't remember it 100%, but I do remember thinking that it wasn't that bad because I thought Zach started to go after him when he was still up and he couldn't stop when he started to slide, etc. Not sure, though.

Come on, not already:
''I'll give you the true answer: It's frustrating,'' McMichael said. ``Of course you want to go out and make plays, and I want to catch balls. But there's only one ball, and sometimes your number is called to help the offensive line so that Daunte [ Culpepper] can get the ball off.''
Because the Dolphins were unable to stem the Pittsburgh rush using the offensive line and backs exclusively, McMichael was asked to add his 255 pounds to the protection of Culpepper. ''Unfortunately, me being the tight end, it falls on me a lot,'' McMichael said. ``That's one thing I've had to adjust to, but I've been here five years and I've been doing it five years. I'm used to it now.''
