According to MiamiHerald.com:
The Dolphins will make a change to their starting lineup Sunday when they promote Yeremiah Bell to starting strong safety, replacing Travares Tillman. ...
''The door isn't closed,'' Tillman said about his opportunity to regain his job. ``Coach [Nick Saban] called me into his office last week and told me about the change. He said he still wanted me to improve in case they need to make a change back for whatever reason.'' ... ``I want Y.B. to do well. It was neck and neck between him and me coming out of training camp, and he's my friend and I'm rooting for him. He's very capable.

The Hall of Fame has released the list of preliminary nominees. This list is then cut down to 25 and then the next class of HOFers is announced the day before the Super Bowl. Former Dolphins on the list include WR Gary Clark, WR Mark Clayton, WR Mark Duper, coach Jimmy Johnson, QB Bernie Kosar, G Bob Kuechenberg, LB John Offerdahl, CB Ken Riley, RB Thurman Thomas and administrator George Young. 10/27: Charlie Leigh Passes Away
Posted by: Patrick
Sun-Sentinel.com reports that Charlie Leigh, RB on the 1972 Dolphins, has died.
He is the third member from the undefeated team to pass away. Linebacker Bob Matheson died in 1994, and left tackle Wayne Moore died in 1989. Matheson was 49, and Moore 44.

From Sun-Sentinel.com: A fire completely destroyed the office building that houses Miami-based Dolphin Digest, the Dolphins team publication, early Tuesday morning. Andy Cohen, the General Manager of Curtis Publishing (publisher of Dolphin Digest) said that they will not miss an issue. 10/25: Chambers in the Slot More?
Posted by: Patrick
From MiamiHerald.com: ''We have put Chris in the slot [last season],'' Saban said. ``It's one of the things we started to do to move him around more. I think it's something that we need to do more of. I think it would help him get the ball more.''
Typically, Chambers lines up as a wideout, where he can use his exceptional speed and acrobatics to catch deep passes. Only problem is, the Dolphins' quarterbacks have yet to dare deliver him many risky passes over the top of defenders -- instead choosing to find receivers such as Wes Welker (currently leading the group in yards) on shorter routes. 10/25: Zach Thomas Losing Weight
Posted by: Patrick
From Keven Lerner:
When I asked him if he lost weight, he said, "I have, man. It's only because, I guess, the stress [from losing] takes its toll on you. I've lost weight. I'm trying to gain it back.

Greg Bedard reports that the Dolphins worked out kickers Paul Edinger and Matt Prater on Tuesday.
Dolphins kicker Olindo Mare, while he leads the league with 11 touchbacks and was named the team's special teams player of the game against the Packers, ranks 31st in the NFL with a 66.7 field-goal percentage (11 of 17). His lowest previous percentage for a season was 75.0 in 2004. And he missed a 52-yarder — after a delay of game penalty — that would have cut the Packers' lead to seven with 2:06 left. I think we should stick with Mare.

ESPN.com reports that Jeno James has had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and that he's likely to miss our next game on November 5.
10/25: Doug Betters
Posted by: Patrick
PalmBeachPost.com has a Where Are They Now? with former Dolphin Doug Betters. Betters, who lives in Whitefish, Mont., suffered a severe spinal cord injury while skiing in 1998 but maintained movement in his hands and arms. That's just enough mobility to pursue his favorite hobbies: flying a helicopter and fly-fishing.
"It's a production," Betters said of getting into a vehicle. "It reminds me of Shamu, the killer whale, when I get my big self into the airplane. I'm still 6-foot-8, 260, so you can't get somebody to just pick you up." 10/25: Uzi
Posted by: Patrick
From PalmBeachPost.com:
Saban has kept his sense of humor during his team's struggles. Asked whether he thinks fear can be a motivator, Saban joked: "You want me to take an Uzi on the sidelines?"?
Posted by: Patrick
From Alex Marvez: Compared to the league's five other one-win teams (Raiders, Cardinals, Lions, Titans and Browns), the Dolphins have played the easiest schedule, with opponents posting a winning percentage of just 40.9. The Dolphins also have the hardest remaining schedule among the six franchises, as future opponents have won 59.6 percent of their games.
10/23: 1-6
Posted by: Patrick
For just the third time in franchise history, we have started the season at 1-6 or worse. The other two years:
1967: Started 1-8, finished 4-10. 2004: Started 1-9, finished 4-12. In 1969, we started 1-6-1 and finished 3-10-1.
Posted by: Patrick
To 1-6 we go with a 34-24 loss at home against Green Bay today. If Favre catches Dan Marino's win record this season, we may just have ourselves to blame. Joey Harrington threw the ball 62 times. That's not a typo. Six two. He was 33 of 62 for 414 yards, 2 TDs and 3 INTs (1 of which was McMichael's fault - the other one was too far away from him to blame him). Favre wasn't that great either, but he managed to avoided any INTs. The Dolphins had chances, but didn't capitalize. Ronnie ran it 15 times for 59 yards, an average of 3.9 yards per carry. He also had 5 catches for 63 yards. The Dolphins receivers continued to drop balls. Marty Booker had 7 catches for 110 yards and 1 TD (as well as a couple of notable miscues). McMichael had 7 catches for 77 yards and had some miscues of his own. Derek Hagan had 53 yards on 5 catches and his first NFL TD. Congratulations to him. (Yes, yes, he had miscues as well - I don't want to talk about it). Sammy Morris made a huge catch, creatively maneuvering for 44 yards. He fumbled at the end of the play, but it went out of bounds. Wes had 6 catches for 38. Mare hit from field goals of 32, 40 and 45. Our last opportunity was late in the 4th quarter where we had a 47 yard field goal to go down 7 and try for an onside kick. It was up... and good. But, we somehow got a delay of game penalty. Unforgivable, really. This put him at 52 yards. He hit the left up right and it bounced down to the end zone. No good. Speaking of field goals, we had an odd development at the end of the 2nd. The Packers kicker, Dave Rayner, was attempting a 55 yard field goal to end the half. It would have been a Packers record. Up and good. But, wait, Zach Thomas gets called for unsportsmanlike conduct for shifting the defensive line right before the snap (not sure if I've ever seen that before). Since it was before the play, there is no play. So, it's a 15 yard penalty and the field goal is now a 40 yarder. Here's the snap and ... it's good. But, wait, a Packer player face masked a Dolphin, bringing it back to a 55 yarder. But, no, they talk and decide that the clock has expired and an offensive penalty does not buy you another attempt. So, no field goal. Channing Crowder had 7 tackles and 4 assists. Jason Taylor had 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. That all happened in the first quarter. One of the fumbles was recovered, the other was not. The recovered one (David Bowens) gave us red zone field position which we capitalized on by scoring a touchdown. Next week, we have a bye. 10/22: Brady: Was it Jason?
Posted by: Patrick
From Sun-Sentinel.com: Brady was the NFL's only quarterback to receive a vote in a recent player poll conducted by Sports Illustrated to determine the NFL's dirtiest player (Patriots safety Rodney Harrison won).
"I can't do anything dirty out there," a laughing Brady told the Boston Herald. "I don't get to touch anyone. I don't know what they're talking about. It must be a Jet or a Dolphin or something. I bet it was Jason Taylor." 10/21: 10/21/06: Injury Report

Here is the injury report for tomorrow's game:
Packers: Out: WR Robert Ferguson (Foot) and DT Cullen Jenkins (Ankle). Doubtful: MLB Abdul Hodge (Knee) and OLB Ben Taylor (Hamstring). Questionable: CB Will Blackmon (Shin) and CB Charles Woodson (Knee). Probable: RB Ahman Green (Hamstring) and FB William Henderson (Calf). Dolphins: Doubtful: QB Daunte Culpepper (Knee). Questionable: WR Marty Booker (Chest), DE Kevin Carter (Knee), CB Travis Daniels (Knee), CB Andre' Goodman (Shoulder), CB Michael Lehan (Hamstring), TE Justin Peelle (Knee), OLB Derrick Pope (Hamstring) and WR Wes Welker (Calf). Probable: DE David Bowens (Hamstring).

From Sun-Sentinel.com:
A 20-year-old grocery store clerk who authorities say amused himself by posting prank Internet warnings of terrorist attacks against NFL stadiums was arrested Friday on federal charges that could bring five years behind bars. ...
"These types of hoaxes scare innocent people, cost business resources and waste valuable homeland security resources. We cannot tolerate this Internet version of yelling fire in a crowded theater in the post-9/11 era," said U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie in Newark, N.J., where Brahm was charged in a sealed complaint filed Thursday. One of the stadiums mentioned was Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:
"This is a hoax," said Special Agent Richard Kolko, a spokesman at the FBI's Washington headquarters. A joint statement from the FBI and Homeland Security said fans "should be reassured of their security as they continue to attend sporting events this weekend."
Posted by: Patrick
From Sun-Sentinel.com:
The Homeland Security Department alerted authorities and stadium owners in those cities, as well as the NFL, of the Web message but said the threat was being viewed ``with strong skepticism.'' Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said there was no intelligence that indicated such an attack was imminent, and that the alert was ``out of an abundance of caution.''

Sun-Sentinel.com reports that Marcus Vick has been promoted to the 53 man roster. To make room, wide receiver Cliff Russell was waived.
10/18: 1-5 Teams and the Playoffs
Posted by: Patrick
From Sun-Sentinel.com: The Dolphins will attempt to become only the second team in NFL history to reach the playoffs after a 1-5 start. Playing a 14-game schedule, the 1970 Cincinnati Bengals rebounded from a 1-6 mark with seven consecutive victories. The Bengals then lost in the first round to the eventual Super Bowl V champion Baltimore Colts.
10/17: Keith Heinrich Pay Dispute

From Sun-Sentinel.com:
The Dolphins are being accused of using an NFL loophole to shortchange a former practice squad player out of $4,700.

Even though it was a loss, I'd say this was probably the most exciting game of the season thus far for Dolphins fans. After going down 20-3 in the 4th quarter, the Dolphins fought back, scoring two touchdowns and coming within an Olindo Mare 50 yard field goal of tying this game.
Harrington got off to a rough start, throwing 2 interceptions in the first quarter. Really, though, one of those was Chris Chambers fault. Harrington put it in a good spot for Chris, who totally blew it, tipping the ball into the air. The offense was unable to score anything until a field goal with 4:28 left in the 3rd quarter. With the Jets touchdown with 13:23 left in the 4th, they took a 3 score lead over the Dolphins. But, it wasn't over. Harrington lead the Dolphins on two impressive, consecutive, scoring drives, both ending in touch downs. The first drive gained 81 yards on 12 plays, ending in a 2 yard TD pass to Chris Chambers. Chris made a terrific leaping catch over a defender to haul it in. The second drive picked up 74 on 11 with Ronnie Brown capping it with a 1 yard TD run. From the point at which the Jets went up by 3 scores, Harrington was 18 of 28 for 199 yards, 1 TD and 0 INT. It was 3 and 2 at the Jets 32 with 38 seconds left in the game when Harrington took the snap and through an incomplete pass to Hagan to set up 4th and 2 and a Mare field goal for the tie. Wes Welker was open to his right, but Harrington didn't look that way. It's hard to criticize the guy on his 4th quarter play though - nobody is perfect. So, the stage was set for an Olindo Mare 51 yard field goal to tie the game at 20. Looked like a clean play, but the ball was dead straight - to the right - and it stayed on that line for the whole way. It was about as close as you can get to the right up right without actually hitting it - if it had reached it, but it came short. Game over, Dolphins lose. Ronnie Brown put in his best game of the year, though, running for 127 yards on 22 carries with 1 TD and 0 fumbles. It was the first time he's run for 100 yards in a game since he ran for 106 on October 30 of last year. Just the third time in his career he's gone for triple digits, topped only by his 132 yard game on September 25 of last year. Randy McMichael led all receivers with 8 catches. Derek Hagan put in a decent game, with 66 yards on 6 catches. However, he made at least a couple costly drops during the game, including one on a deep ball. Chambers had 5 catehs for 50 yards and the aforementioned TD and costly INT drop, as well. Wes had 56 on 6. Mare hit from 21 before missing from 50. Reynaldo Hill led all defenders with 8 tackles. Zach had 7 tackles and 3 assists. Dan Wilkinson and Keith Adams both had forced fumbles. The Dolphins turned the ball over 3 times (2 INTs, 1 fumble) and the Jets turned the ball over 0 times, despite fumbling 3 times, but the Dolphins remained in the game down to the final seconds. Next week, we'll be at home against Green Bay at 1 PM ET.
