From Greg Bedard:
After hinting running back Patrick Cobbs would be promoted from the practice squad to help fill the void left by Ronnie Brown, Dolphins coach Nick Saban made the move official Monday afternoon, according to a source.

From MiamiHerald.com:
The Detroit News' website reported Saturday that Dolphins assistant coach Charlie Baggett has interviewed for the head-coaching job at Michigan State and that he was a finalist. Baggett is a former Spartans quarterback and was an assistant under Saban there from 1995-98. The report said a new coach could be named as early as Monday.

Greg Bedard has this quote from Saban:
"His return is going to be based on the time he needs to get some healing relative to how we can protect his hand so that he can play his position," Saban said. "There's a pretty good chance this week is going to be a difficult (situation) and we'll go week to week and it may be several weeks before he gets back but we don't know that and nobody knows that right now."

From MiamiHerald.com: The team announced Friday that surgery to repair Brown's fractured second metacarpal on his dominant hand was successful, but the news also confirms what Brown feared about the significance of his injury following the game. Brown is likely to miss at least one game -- and possibly more -- although the team would only say he will be evaluated on ``an ongoing basis.'' I suppose it's good news and bad news. Good that he's not lost for the year, but bad because we need to pretty much win out to have a shot at the postseason and even that is a big longshot with Brown. But, without him? 11/25: Eckel Speaks of Navy Issues
Posted by: Patrick
From Sun-Sentinel.com: Dolphins fullback Kyle Eckel wouldn't comment on the specific reason for his recent dismissal from the Naval Academy, but he said a Navy Times article chronicling the situation "reflects zero percent of what type of person I am."
11/24: Ronnie Has Surgery
Posted by: Patrick
From Sun-Sentinel.com:
Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown underwent surgery Friday to repair a fracture in his left hand, leaving his status uncertain for a Dec. 3 home game against Jacksonville. The Dolphins have not said when they expect him back.

From MiamiHerald.com:
Despite intentions to re-sign Dolphins guard Joe Berger following his release Wednesday, the Dallas Cowboys decided they weren't willing to let that happen.

I can't help but be happy for Joey Harrington. I don't have to recount the story of what happened in Detroit, ending with him being traded to Miami for a conditional 6th rounder. Coming into this game, on Thanksgiving, he had thrown 0 TDs. And 5 INTs. So, he returned to Detroit to play on Thanksgiving at Ford Field. And he really played well.
He finished 19 of 29 with 213 yards passing, 3 TDs and 1 INT. The INT at the end of the first half was a killer, but in the end, it wasn't that big a deal. His numbers could have been better - Dolphins receivers dropped some balls - but they were good enough for me. His favorite target was Marty Booker who had a huge day, pulling in 7 passes for 115 yards and 2 touchdowns. The guy who picked him up in the fantasy league I am in has to be a happy camper today. Wes had 5 catches for 42 yards and McMichael had 3 for 25 to go along with a TD, his first of the year. The TV announcer (probably Jim Nantz) noted that McMichael had the most catches without a TD this year in the entire league, up until that one. The running game was awesome, as well. As a team, we ran for 186 yards on 35 carries (an average of 5.3). Can't ask for too much more than that. Ronnie Brown had 68 yards on 15 carries before leaving the game with a hand injury. But, Sammy Morris ran like crazy (although he did lose a fumble), picking up 91 yards on 12 carries with half of that coming on a 55 yard dash. Meanwhile, our defense held them to just 21 yards on the ground. Travis Daniels led the defense with 7 tackles. The NFL's leading tackler, Zach Thomas, had 6 and passed the 100 tackle mark for the year. He also had 2 sacks. Vonnie Holliday had 3 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery. Matt Roth had 3 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble forced. Kevin Carter and David Bowens each had a sack while Reynaldo Hill had a big INT, putting the Dolphins deep in Detroit territory. Olindo was a perfect 2 of 2, hitting from 42 and 28. Donnie Jones punted 5 times for an average of 42.6 including 2 kicks inside the 20. This has to be a satisfying Thanksgiving for Dolphins fans. Hope everyone had/has a fun, safe holiday. Happy Thanksgiving. The Dolphins will now get 10 days without football. Our next game is against the Jaguars on Sunday, December 3rd at 4:05 PM. Hopefully that'll give Ronnie enough time to heal whatever happened to his hand.

Sun-Sentinel.com reports that Jason Taylor was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. It's the 2nd time in 3 weeks and the 7th time all time. Congrats.
11/23: Norman LeJeune Signed
Posted by: Patrick
From Sun-Sentinel.com:
Injuries in their secondary prompted the Dolphins to sign safety Norman LeJeune from the practice squad Wednesday and release guard Joe Berger.

From MiamiHerald.com: Nick Saban has not been contacted about becoming the football coach at the University of Alabama and he's not interested, according to Saban's agent, Jimmy Sexton, who refuted a published report Wednesday.
''It's just not true,'' Sexton said of a Birmingham News report that Saban had a contract offer from Alabama to replace Mike Shula. 11/22: 11/22/06: Injury Report

In a battle of 4-5 teams, the Dolphins managed to take the upper hand, thanks to 2 huge defensive touchdowns, to win by 4. Joey Harrington had an OK game. He was 26 of 42 for 254 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. He fumbled once, which he managed to recover, but he also botched a hand off to Ronnie on the goal line to cut short the first drive of the game (which was extremely impressive up to that point with Joey basically running the table) for which Ronnie got credited. Our running game was non existent as we attempted just 14 carries - only 12 of which were Ronnie. As a squad, we ran negative 3, with Ronnie finishing with 2 yards. We just didn't run. 11/19: Jake Scott
Posted by: Patrick
Dave Hype at Sun-Sentinel.com has a long article about his trip to talk to Jake Scott.
Still, when he wouldn't shoot up the shoulder with painkillers for an exhibition game, Shula and Scott got in a yelling match in the locker room. The next day, Scott was traded to Washington for the forgettable Bryan Salter.
But that's not the mistake Scott harbors today. Several teammates asked don't know this one. They think he never has attended a Perfect Season reunion. But he says he was there in 1982, at the 10-year celebration, ready to join in. As Scott tells it, he and Shula were in an Orange Bowl elevator together. "I said to him, `We've got to meet next week and iron out this thing between us," Scott says. "Shula said to me, `F--- you.''' Shula says today: "I don't remember that. Why would I say that?" When the elevator door opened Scott walked out of the Orange Bowl, rolling away like a dropped coin, never to be seen again. Shula wishes he would return, saying, "I loved Jake on that team and I know the kind of player he was. I don't think there has been a better safety combination than him and Anderson."

Despite earlier reports, Navy Times is reporting that he was involuntary kicked out of Navy: Former Naval Academy standout football player Kyle Eckel, now playing professionally for the Miami Dolphins, was kicked out of the Navy last month and will have to repay a portion of the cost of his Annapolis education. Citing privacy concerns, the Navy would not characterize the specific nature of Eckel’s “administrative separation” saying only that it was “involuntary.” Eckel declined an interview request through a team representative, and attempts to reach his agent were unsuccessful. Wright on Friday said he will recommend that the league adopt a new code of conduct that would prevent players under contract to or suspended by other leagues from playing in Canada.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:
Dolphins veteran defensive tackle Keith Traylor will be out indefinitely due to an undisclosed knee injury.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:
Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Monday that left guard Jeno James sustained cartilage damage in his right knee in the first quarter of Sunday's 13-10 victory over the Chiefs and will be out for at least a couple of weeks.

Thanks to big time defense and a lack of mistakes on offense, the Dolphins were able to come away with a victory against the Chiefs by the score of 13-10. The defense managed to hold the Chiefs scoreless until 11:00 minutes left in the 4th quarter, when a Lawrence Tynes field goal gave Kansas City their first points of the day. It was the first time that the Dolphins have held a team scoreless in the first half all year. Larry Johnson scored on a 2 yard TD run with 7:14 left, but that would be all. The Chiefs first 5 drives all ended in 3 and out. Yeremiah Bell had another big day, leading the defense with 6 tackles in addition to 3 assists. Channing Crowder had 4 tackles. Zach had 3 tackles, 4 assists and a sack. Vonnie Holiday had 3 tackles, 1 assist and a sack. Keith Traylor had 1 tackle and 1 sack. 11/12: Drew Brees
Posted by: Patrick
I was just watching the Fox pregame show and Terry Bradshaw was interviewing Drew Brees and after the interview was over, Bradshaw said he got the feeling that Brees was a little upset with the Dolphins for not spending much time with him and finding out what was "inside his heart." This wasn't mentioned in the actual interview, just by Terry Bradshaw after. But, I wanted to mention it.

I guess ESPN reported that the Dolphins were considering starting Cleo Lemon. This is what Saban had to say on it:
In yet another trademark media rant, Saban said there was no truth to an ESPN report before Sunday's game against the Bears that suggested the Dolphins were seriously considering replacing Joey Harrington with Cleo Lemon at quarterback. ''But if you write it, I guess somebody believes it and I have to answer it,'' he said. ``I'm going to write a column one day, and I'm going to get all of you in trouble.'' I wouldn't really mind seeing it, in any case.
