From PalmBeachPost.com:

The contract will more than double the guaranteed money that's left on Saban's agreement with the Dolphins (approximately $15 million) and will make him the highest-paid coach in college football, the sources said.

The deal, including coach's shows, endorsements, camps and other outside income, could be worth from $40-$50 million and would include a $5 million signing bonus. The length of the contract is uncertain.

A quote from a MiamiHerald.com story:

''Absolutely, positively, no way,'' Huizenga said when asked if he might sell the team. ``We are not selling, and there is no waffling on that. How's that for a definitive answer?''

Zach Thomas has been fined $7,500 for his hit on Laveranues Coles on Monday.

"I have more respect for that guy than any player around,'' Thomas said. "So I'm not going to take a cheap shot. But when I'm running full speed, how can you slow yourself down?''

From Jason Lieser:

"You'd stop it, wouldn't you?" Taylor, the Dolphins' Pro Bowl defensive end, said Thursday. "I guarantee you'd stop it. I'm not the smartest man in the world, but I know if you did that, it would stop.

"There's a way to end this whole steroid situation: If you get caught using steroids or performance-enhancing drugs, you can't play the game anymore. It's as simple as that."

Dave Hyde says that J.T. should be commended:

Who could be against one syllable of Jason Taylor's comments?

He doesn't like steroids in sports. He thinks players using performance-enhancing drugs are cheaters. He thinks they send the wrong message to kids on how to get ahead. He also thinks such drug use would stop among NFL players if lifetime bans were handed out for positive tests. ...

Do you understand how unusual it is for a star athlete to say what he thinks on anything beyond playing time and endorsement deals? We're in an age when star athletes run from any hint of controversy. They were raised on the line of Michael Jordan, who never talked politics because, "Republicans buy shoes, too."

You can't really blame them. You need belief, perspective and courage to put yourself on the line. Taylor doesn't like being a target, but he was asked a question and wasn't going to duck.

From PalmBeachPost.com:

"First of all, I think Shawne has had a hell of a year," Taylor said in a conference call. "He's one of the best young talents we have in this game right now.

"A performance-enhancing drug is, obviously, what it is. You enhance your performance by doing that. You fail that test, I think it's not right. It's against the rules and ultimately I think it's sending the wrong message to the youth in America and the people who look at this game not only as entertainment but also to learn lessons from it.

"It's tough. You really shouldn't be able to fail a test like that and play in this league to begin with. To make the Pro Bowl and all the other awards, I think you're walking a fine line of sending the wrong message."

Boomer Esiason atat NFL.com:

But what unfolded was certainly not a Cinderella tale. Culpepper struggled to learn his new offense and get comfortable with the players around him. He struggled because his knee wasn't 100 percent and because he put so much pressure on himself to regain the Pro Bowl form he once had in Minnesota. With each passing game, Culpepper struggled to find a rhythm while trying to be everything the Dolphins had hoped. With the amount of sacks he took, it is clear Culpepper never became comfortable.

As I look into my crystal ball, I see a player, much like Pennington, who will be motivated to rise above the criticism. I believe that Culpepper, who will be 100 percent physically ready next season, will bring Miami back to the playoffs in 2007.

"I'm just making a rule to never comment on something like that again because every time you comment on it, it just makes for another story," Saban said Wednesday. "So I'm not going to comment on it five years from now, and I'm not going to comment on it next week."

Updating previous reports, MiamiHerald.com says that Nick Saban has confirmed that Cleo Lemon will start on Sunday against the Colts.

Cleo Lemon, who has spent most of his 26 games with the Dolphins as the emergency third quarterback, will get his first NFL start Sunday against Indianapolis, Dolphins coach Nick Saban said today. ...

''I think organizationally, it's important for us to see where this guy is,'' Saban said of Lemon. ``I think he deserves the opportunity. I think he's earned the right. I think the other players respect him. I think we'll hopefully get a team behind him so he has a chance to do the things he can do so we can have some success.''

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

Cleo Lemon will start at quarterback for the Dolphins on Sunday in the season finale against the Indianapolis Colts, a source said Tuesday night.

Cool. I'll be interested to see what he does. We can't expect much, obviously, but in the small sample we have of him, the offense has just looked a little more exciting with him in there.

Jason Lieser has a Where Are They Now? column with A.J. Duhe.

Duhe, 51, is the regional director for Harrah's Entertainment in Fort Lauderdale. His responsibilities include marketing and enhancing relationships with clients.

The Dolphins released Duhe during training camp in 1985. In eight seasons with Miami, Duhe had 39.5 sacks and three interceptions, but he also underwent nine surgeries, including three on his left knee.

From MiamiHerald.com:

Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, who was visiting the ESPN commentators as a on-air guest during the second quarter, said Culpepper needed a better work ethic. That he needed to stop missing meetings.

''I don't miss meetings,'' Culpepper said as he waited to confront Young outside the ESPN broadcast booth. ``That's not who I am. I'm working so hard to get back right now, and I don't need to hear someone who doesn't even know me say I'm missing meetings and I need to work harder.'' ...

Once the discussion -- which remained very peaceful and diplomatic -- had ended, Young apologized about the comments. Young said he had heard from others that Culpepper was missing meetings, but he shouldn't have said the comments on the air.

Christmas Day turned bitter for Dolphins fans, just short of midnight, when Mike Nugent connected on a 30 yard field goal to hand the Jets a 13-10 victory in Miami.

Joey Harrington started and was sluggish again, although he avoided costly mistakes. He was 7 for 15 for 42 yards in the first half. Neither team scored until a Jets field goal with 2:25 left in the third quarter.

To start the second half, Cleo Lemon was inserted into the game and, again, the offense just seemed a little more interesting with him in there. He wasn't afraid to make some throws and the offense was most productive with him at the helm (although, the weather was better during the second half, I believe). He was 11 of 16 for 104 yards and a touchdown.

That TD was caught by Randy McMichael, who led the Dolphin receivers with 5 catches and 46 yards. Hagan looked good as well with 35 yards on 3 catches. Sammy Morris had 23 yards on 4 catches to go along with 14 yards on 6 rushing attempts.

Speaking of rushing, Ronnie Brown looked very good in his return, rushing for 110 yards on 18 carries (and catching 3 balls for 15 yards). The only question I have is... in a close game like this, if he's averaging 6.1 yards a carry - why didn't he carry more? It's not like we've got Dan Marino out there passing for us still.

In all, the defense was solid. Zach had 9 tackles. Jason Taylor had 3 tackles and a sack. John Denney made a heads up fumble recovery on a Donnie Jones punt where the ball bounced back and hit an unknowing Jets special teamer in the leg. Denney bounced on it for the recovery. Speaking of Donnie, he hit a career high with 10 punts, averaging 42.7 per.

Next Sunday, we'll finish the season off in Indy at 4:15 PM. The game has been moved back from 1:00 PM.

Former Dolphins left tackle Richmond Webb will be inducted into the Dolphins Honor Roll on Monday Night. From MiamiHerald.com:

''I was kind of surprised, only because typically it takes a little longer to get in,'' Webb said of being added to the Dolphins' Honor Roll. ``Hey, I'll take it now, but I was definitely surprised. . . . It's great, just the idea of being honored and getting up there with that elite group of guys that everybody's looking forward to.'' ...

''[Dan Mario] made me look good for so many years,'' Webb said. ``People always talk about me protecting Dan, but Dan was doing this even before I got there.''

Congrats to him.

From MiamiHerald.com:

On Monday, before that night's game against the New York Jets, Vick will be activated for the first time as a pro, moving into the rotation of wide receivers as a result of Marty Booker's sprained ankle. He will be catching passes instead of throwing them. He will be the fourth option at his position, not the first. ...

''We'd like to use him and see exactly what he can do as a receiver and see how he responds in a game,'' coach Nick Saban said, noting that Vick will play only if Booker, who is listed as doubtful, can't. ``He's done a good job in practice.''

From an interview at SI.com:

Silver: You'd been with Scott in Minnesota, and that was a big reason you signed with Miami. Tell me about your relationship with him.

Frerotte: Well, he sticks up for his players. I found out later that coach Saban wanted to bench me for that last game of the season, because I had a bunch of incentives on the line, and it could have saved the organization money. But Scott told him, "He's the guy who's gotten us this far. There's no way we can bench him now."

And here is what Saban has to say about it:

''That's absolutely not true,'' Saban said. ``I make those decisions. Scott Linehan doesn't make them. He didn't make them here. Maybe somebody told Gus Frerotte that to get him to leave here. But that is absolutely not true. I would swear on my life, my children's life and everybody else that that is absolutely not true.''
