This is all kinda old news by now, but I woke up yesterday vomiting and... suffice to say, couldn't make it to my laptop to post anything. Sorry. Feeling a bit better now, so I wanted to get something up. Here is who we ended up with on day two:
4th round, 9th pick (108th overall). Paul Soliai, DT/Utah. 6th round, 7th pick (181st overall). Reagan Mauia, FB/Hawaii. 6th round, 24th pick (198th overall). Drew Mormino, C/Central Michigan. 7th round, 9th pick (219th overall). Kelvin Smith, LB/Syracuse. 7th round, 15th pick (225th overall). Brandon Fields, P/Michigan State. 7th round, 28th pick (238th overall). Abraham Wright, DE/Colorado.

I'll update this entry throughout the day with Dolphins draft related news and information.
1st round, 9th pick (9th overall). Ted Ginn, Jr., WR/Ohio State. Wow, Brady Quinn was available and we passed on him. Very surprising. In the end, Quinn would last until the 22nd pick, when the Browns traded up to draft him. 2nd round, 8th pick (40th overall). John Beck, QB/BYU. 2nd round, 28th pick (60th overall). Samson Satele, C/Hawaii. 3rd round, 7th pick (71st overall). Lorenzo Booker, RB/Florida State. And that's it for day one. Tomorrow, we have the following picks: 4th round, 9th pick (108th overall). 6th round, 7th pick (181st overall). 6th round, 24th pick (198th overall). 7th round, 9th pick (219th overall). 7th round, 15th pick (225th overall). 7th round, 28th pick (238th overall).

Armando Salguero reports that the Chiefs have lowered their demands for Trent Green down to a 4th rounder.

From Alex Marvez:
It's unknown what compensation the Dolphins are seeking, but the willingness to part with Booker could mean the team has targeted a receiver with the No. 9 pick. The leading candidate would be Ohio State speedster Ted Ginn Jr., who recently visited Dolphins headquarters and was scouted during an on-campus workout by Dolphins coach Cam Cameron and General Manager Randy Mueller.

Alex Marvez has the Dolphins 5 best and worst draft picks in team history based on "productivity, value and impact." Can't really argue with the worst ones as they were all bad... the best ones are fine, as well. Marino's a no brainer. I'm not too sure about Theismann, though.
04/27: Culpepper Releases Statement
Posted by: Patrick
Daunte Culpepper sent out a statement to the media yesterday. Armando Salguero posted it on his blog. There has been a lot of speculation about my status with the Dolphins so I thought it best to weigh in on the matter. Since I am a player/agent and there are discussions about my career taking place, I expect to be included in those discussions sooner rather than later. As it pertains to being traded or released I don’t get to make that call so I will await the Dolphins decision. I am sure that they will do what is in the best interest of the team. While those decisions are being made, I am continuing to do everything I can to prepare to play at the level of expectations of the Dolphins (if they keep me), the NFL fans and most importantly myself. Until this week it never entered my mind that I wouldn’t be the starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins this coming season.
04/26: Donnie Spragan Re-signed
Posted by: Patrick
MiamiHerald.com reports that Donnie Spragan has been re-signed to a 1 year deal.
04/25: Bobby Replacing Bobby
Posted by: Patrick
Greg Bedard reports that we've hired Bobby Jackson has our new Running Backs Coach, replacing Bobby Williams. "Bobby Jackson is one of the finest coaches I've ever had an opportunity to work with," said Cameron, who coached with Jackson with the Redskins from 1994 to '96. "He has a proven ability to develop running backs and we're very fortunate to have him as part of our staff."
Jackson, 66, has been out of the league since he retired at the end of the 2002 season, when he was associate head coach/offensive coordinator/running backs coach for the St. Louis Rams. 04/23: Ricky Not to Return?
Posted by: Patrick
From Paul Attner:
It is almost inconceivable RB Ricky Williams will be on the Dolphins' opening day roster. Don't forget that G.M. Randy Mueller, now making the Dolphins' personnel decisions, is the guy who traded Williams from the Saints in 2002 when he was general manager in New Orleans. No one in the league is more familiar with Williams or has more reservations about his bizarre behavior. Williams' request to be reinstated after his suspension for drug use could be approved even before the draft, and he'll wind up playing for some team in the fall. Just not the Dolphins.

From Sun-Sentinel.com: The Dolphins now hold the exclusive rights to free safety Yeremiah Bell and quarterback Cleo Lemon, who didn't agree to offer sheets with other teams before the NFL's Friday deadline for the signing of restricted free agents. Bell and Lemon were both tendered one-year, $1.3 million contracts.
04/20: The Martins
Posted by: Patrick
Ethan Skolnick has an article on David Martin, the Dolphins new TE, his wife Kameisha and their autistic son, David. Definitely worth a read.
Posted by: Patrick
From Sun-Sentinel.com: The Dolphins hosted a couple of top draft prospects Thursday: Ohio State receiver/returner Ted Ginn Jr., and according to a source, Penn State tackle Levi Brown. ...
The Dolphins' search for a young quarterback took them to Provo, Utah, earlier this month, where coach Cam Cameron and General Manager Randy Mueller met with Brigham Young quarterback John Beck, according to a source. 04/20: Bobby Williams Fired
Posted by: Patrick
Sun-Sentinel.com reports that Running Backs Coach Bobby Williams has been fired.
"I would say I was devastated,'' Williams said. "It's complicated. But the one thing I know is I'm a good coach. I appreciate everything [owner H. Wayne Huizenga and CEO Joe Bailey] did for me and my family.''

From ESPN.com:
Coach Scott Linehan, the offensive coordinator when Williams played for the Miami Dolphins in 2005, said Thursday he'd consider adding Williams to the roster as a backup. The Rams need depth behind Steven Jackson. "He's proven himself with me," Linehan said. "I know there would be a certain amount of risk involved based on that, but I would just because he deserves that based on what he was able to do." Greg Bedard mentions: The NFL has rules against teams commenting on their interest in players under contract with other teams. Whether Linehan's comments about Williams, who has two years left on his Dolphins' deal, constituted tampering was unclear. An NFL spokesman did not immediately return messages.

Updating a previous story, ESPN.com reports that we have officially declined to match the Rams' offer for Donnie Jones. In compensation, we will get their 7th round pick, the 225th pick overall.
04/19: Shula un '72 Team Parties
Posted by: Patrick
The Philadelphia Inquirer has an interview with Don Shula An excerpt:
Another fond memory for Shula, of course, is the perfect season of 1972, when the Dolphins went 17-0. He said the widely held belief that players from that Miami team celebrate whenever a team threatening to go undefeated loses is not true. "What happened was Nick Buoniconti and Dick Anderson lived across from each other down in Coral Gables, and after one of those undefeated teams got beat they went out in the parking lot with a bottle of champagne and popped it," he said. "Another time we were at a fund-raiser at a place owned by Jack Nicklaus and it was right after a team lost its first game. Jack came out with a bottle of champagne and we toasted each other. People read that and thought we were having a big party." Via Keven Lerner.

Sun-Sentinel.com reports that LSU kicker/punter Chris Jackson participated in a private workout for the Dolphins yesterday.

Yahoo! reports that we've signed former Chiefs center Johnathan Ingram (he's played in four games since 2003) and former Chargers (practice squad) running back Ray Perkins.
04/16: Don't Cut Daunte, Yet
Posted by: Patrick
From David J. Neal: Once the new regime takes command, the signs of the old regime often get razed. Daunte Culpepper is a 6-4, 260-pound symbol of Nick Saban's disappointing time as Dolphins coach. He's not Cam Cameron's guy, not Cam Cameron's kind of guy and that's why he won't be on Cam Cameron's roster by this summer. ... Why not wait until July or August? If Culpepper still looks like he needs to visit The Scooter Store, then cut him loose. Maybe you lose him for nothing, but you also give yourself the chance that he shows up at training camp closer to being the Pro Bowl quarterback he once was. I agree with him. We should wait to cut him. I mean, look at what we've got right now, besides him. Cleo Lemon and Gibran Hamdan. I like Cleo, but he has one start. Let's say we trade for Trent Green. Big deal. He's 37 years old, coming off a concussion. None of these options jumps out at you and says "this is the one!" We're gonna have a QB competition here. Let's not rush to cut Daunte when we don't have something concrete to go to. I don't see a reason to cut him now instead of in July or August. There shouldn't be a hurry with our situation at the position. 04/16: Players Happier?
Posted by: Patrick
From Greg Bedard:
- There was a box seeking donations to pay for Rogaine treatments for Zach Thomas in the locker room;
- I can't tell you how much happier the players, assistant coaches and staff members look compared to last year. Assistants are walking around joking with players and the media. It's like a 50-ton weight has been removed from the building;
Posted by: Patrick
Alex Marvez reports that a source said Saturday that the Dolphins will again try to trade for Green and that the deal "should be completed this week." Due to Green's desire to play for the Dolphins and the leverage he has with his contract, the Chiefs aren't in a great position as far as trying to maximize his value. He also says that if Green is picked up, it is "likely" that the Dolphins will cut Daunte. 04/15: The Coach Diron Haircut Fund
Posted by: Patrick
From Armando Salguero: New defensive tackle coach Diron Reynolds hasn't really impressed his players with his hairstyle -- described by one Miami staffer as a mini-Afro. So players set up a Coach Diron haircut fund. As of Saturday the fund had $5.
04/15: Allen Practicing at CB
Posted by: Patrick
Alex Marvez reports that Jason Allen has been working exclusively at cornerback.
Posted by: Patrick
From Sun-Sentinel.com: The wide-brimmed straw hat was replaced by a white Dolphins baseball cap and the canopy between the two fields was gone, but first-year coach Cam Cameron eased into the first practice with his team Friday morning.
"It's been different, but you know, I've already had four head coaches -- maybe five, if you count [interim coach] Jim Bates," said 12-year linebacker Zach Thomas, the longest-tenured Dolphin. "Things change. You've got to adjust. But for the first day, this is the smoothest it's ever been. 04/14: Culpepper's Second Surgery
Posted by: Patrick
Culpepper said Friday that his second surgery had a recovery time of 4-6 months. On Friday, Culpepper revealed the procedure to remove scar tissue actually required a four- to six-month period of recovery. Culpepper said he had started sprinting last month in the offseason workout program but began experiencing soreness, which led to him being told to stop running. ...
When Culpepper underwent his second surgery, then-Dolphins coach Nick Saban said it was "not a real serious type of thing." Saban changed his tune during his final Dolphins news conference Jan. 1 by saying, "I don't think we can make predictions about what is going to happen for Daunte in the future." 04/14: Dolphins Sign Mike Rosenthal
