A belated welcome to Palm Beach Post readers. I only found out today. We were featured in the July 20 issue of the newspaper as part of Jason Lieser's Sports section cover story about sports blogs. The URL was mentioned in a sidebar on page 7B, at the end, in a small section for Miami Dolphins blogs. We were listed along with Phinfever and The Phinsider. You can read the article online at the Palm Beach Post site. Thanks to Mr. Lieser and the Post for the mention.

As an aside, I was born in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Jeff Darlington talks about the changes that Cam Cameron has made with the organization. Here are some:

• Players are prohibited from wearing hats in meeting rooms, a rule inspired by simple old-school etiquette and manners.

• The computers and phones have been removed from the locker room area, limiting potential distractions in the work place.

• No longer will players have a hotel room to themselves during the monthlong training camp, as each has been assigned a roommate to foster team unity.

• The locker room has been reconstructed. Dividers have been removed to make the area a wide-open space, allowing for less cliques among groups of players.

• A montage of great Dolphins players has been added to the walls of a hallway leading into the locker room, an effort to inspire players by displaying the team's treasured past.

From FinHeaven:

"He came to me this morning and he's going to go back and be a student assistant coach at Clemson," Cameron said. "He's a wonderful young man and we don't feel like he's running out on us. He had thought about it a great deal, didn't want to waste our time and I respect him for that. He did an outstanding job while he was here."

Ben Volin has some thoughts from Chambers on his arrest.

"Of course it's a little embarrassing to myself and my family," Chambers said after the team's first training-camp practice. "But I can learn from it, and you have to move on. I'll make it into a positive."

In the end, Ted Ginn, Jr. met the Huizenga deadline and signed a five year deal yesterday.

On Friday afternoon, Ginn received the funds to pay for those purchases as he signed a five-year contract, barely skirting the noon deadline for all players to report on the first official day of training camp. Ginn received between $13.5 million to $14 million in guarantees, according two sources.

From Harvey Fialkov:

Before the morning practice of Saturday's first day of training camp the Dolphins acquired former Oakland Raiders tight end Courtney Anderson off waivers. They also cut safety David Lofton, son of Hall of Fame receiver receiver James Lofton, to make room for him.

Harvey Fialkov and Edgar Thompson both have articles on rookie wide receiver David Sutton, who has apparently looked pretty good so far in camp.

As the lone black player on his Long Beach (Calif.) Poly High School volleyball team, Dolphins undrafted rookie receiver David Sutton was subject to racial taunts at visiting gymnasiums. It was so hurtful, that he ignored a potential volleyball scholarship to Penn State and decided to give football a try in junior college.

Sutton bounced from Lincoln (Mo.) University to Compton (Calif.) Community College before ending up at Texas-El Paso, where he barely played for coach Mike Price. In two seasons, the 6-foot-6, 222-pound Sutton had just six catches for 30 yards with one touchdown.

From Harvey Fialkov:

Unfortunately, Green didn't have rookie receiver Ted Ginn Jr. to throw to as the Ohio State speedster continues to test the edict of owner H. Wayne Huizenga by holding out. However, Dolphins coach Cam Cameron made it clear that he won't consider Ginn a holdout until Friday when veterans must report. So that gives the ultimatum-issuing owner an escape route. I expect Ginn to sign before Friday but every session he misses gives another receiver a chance to squeeze him out of the receiver rotation. Cameron only seems concerned with Ginn's ability to return kicks anyhow. ...

From the official site:

... the team signed defensive tackle Brian Soi as an undrafted college free agent. The 22-year-old Soi was eligible for the July 12 NFL supplemental draft but was not selected. ...

The 6-3, 315-pound Soi (pronounced SOY) played one year at Utah State (2005). That season, he participated in all 11 games and recorded 31 tackles, 7.5 stops for loss, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a blocked kick. Prior to that, he was a two-time all-state selection at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah. He was born on May 3, 1985 in American Samoa.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

On Saturday, the team and sixth-round pick Drew Mormino agreed to terms on a four-year deal, according to Mormino's agent, Dave Butz. Butz declined to comment on details of the deal, but said Mormino, an offensive lineman out of Central Michigan, would "most definitely" be at training camp today.

That means that we've signed every player except for Ginn and Beck.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

"Immediately, there was an opportunity to trade," Cameron said at Orangebrook Country Club. "Then for a variety of reasons, the trade did not take place. The trade process drew the whole thing out. Ultimately, the trade was not able to get done, and we moved in a different direction." ...

"Right away, after we talked with Daunte and alerted to him that he would not be the quarterback, we had a discussion and said we want to work together [on a trade]," Cameron said.

David J. Neal reports that the Dolphins will not tack on any additional punishment to Joey Porter, following his fine by the NFL.

''It's over. He's been fined and it's over,'' Cameron said. ``I think he's learned from it. I think that's how you approach things. You're going to have issues with personnel. It could be coaching personnel, organizational personnel or players. When those things happen, one of the most important things is, how does the individual handle the adversity?''

Update: The fine is official.

Adam Schefter reports that Joey Porter is expected to be given one of the largest fines in NFL history - $141,176 (kind of a funny number? it's the amount of 3 game checks for him) - but will not face suspension.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

In March, team owner H. Wayne Huizenga said he wanted to set a tone by having all rookies signed by training camp. With rookies scheduled to report to training camp Sunday, three of the 10 draftees remain unsigned. Satele agreed to a four-year contract that includes $1,225,000 guaranteed and $1.6 million in base pay.

Our top two picks, Ted Ginn and John Beck, remain unsigned, as does 6th round pick Drew Mormino.

ESPN reports that the Dolphins have released Daunte Culpepper, just a day before his grievance was set to be heard.

"As I was going through this process I heard about a quote by Gandhi that best expresses my thoughts about this victory: 'First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win,'" Culpepper, who serves as his own agent, said in an e-mail. "Now that I have won my freedom and I get to choose my next team, I am just like many other people who have to go out and find employment so that I can take care of my family."

Yeah, Gandhi was making around $8 million when he said that, wasn't he?

Thanks Anthony.

Pulling from various articles - according to the police report and sources, Chambers failed six field sobriety tests. He refused a Breathalyzer test at the scene, but received one at the police station and his breath read .06 which is below the legal limit of .08. He was also cited for reckless driving and speeding (clocked at 74 in a 45). His hearing has been set for August 15.

From ESPN:

4. Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins have all the makings of a team that should make a dramatic jump. Their .512 schedule should play out a little easier than expected. Technically, the Dolphins play the easiest schedule in the AFC East, and the tougher schedules played by the Patriots, Jets and Bills should drag down the overall record of their opponents. Miami's non-common opponents are the Raiders and Texans, both winnable games. Most of the Dolphins' tough games are at home. Just going off schedule adjustments, Miami could end up with a .477 schedule, which could make it one of the easiest in the AFC.

The move to get Trent Green should push the Dolphins over 20 points a game, which puts them in range for a dramatic improvement. RB Ronnie Brown should have his best year working with Cam Cameron. Despite advancing age, the Dolphins ranked No. 8 in overall defense last season. What the Dolphins can't do is get lured into thinking they've totally turned everything around. Next year, they play the AFC West and NFC West, which should make for a tough 2008 season.
