Ronnie Brown had a great day today, rushing for 134 yards on 15 carries for a TD (including a 60 yard dash) and 73 receiving yards on 6 receptions. Unfortunately, there wasn't much else to write home about in this one as the Dolphins lost, 35-17.

Once again, our rushing defense killed us, allowing 299 yards on the ground with 3 TDs. All 3 of them were ran in by Daunte Culpepper, who had 28 yards on the ground. Besides that, he was 5 for 12 for 75 yards, 2 TDs and 0 INTs.

After scoring one of the TDs, he was... well, really excited. And, that's fine and understandable. But, then, he made a prolonged scene by facing the Miami stands, pointing at them, pointing at his knee and putting up an OK symbol. He didn't do this just once, though, but like 50 times.

Now, I wrote, back when he was still a Dolphin, that we shouldn't get rid of him. And Cameron probably didn't handle it as good as he could have. But, what Daunte did today was not classy at all.

Your knee is OK? Cool. Happy for you. I don't wish bad things on people. However, we paid you a bunch of money and you produced nothing. I'm not saying it was your fault, but you weren't put through hardships and you aren't Gandhi. Could part of the reason that your knee is OK now be because of the time that you spent rehabbing on our dime? Yeah, I think so.

Donovin Darius led the defense today with 9 tackles, Derrick Pope had 8 tackles and Matt Roth had 6 tackles and a sack. We were able to force a fumble on a punt return and that was the Raiders only turnover. There was a fumble by a Raiders running back in the 4th quarter, if I recall, that was ruled down by contact. Cameron challenged it and it looked like it would go our way, but didn't.

Trent Green was 14 of 25 for 158 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs. The interceptions continue to kill us. Ronnie was his favorite target, but Justin Peelle had a solid day, as well, with 45 yards on 3 catches, including a 35 yard catch and run on 4th and 4th. He also caught a TD.

Next Sunday, we'll play the Titans in Houston at 1:00 PM ET.

The Palm Beach Post reports that even when Ricky applies for reinstatement, the medical staff can take up to 45 days to submit their evaluation of him and then the commissioner can take another 15 days to make his decision.

Harvey Fialkov has an article on Lorenzo Booker, who is being brought along slowly by Cameron.

Zach is feeling better, but is still waiting for medical clearance. He wants to play, but it's going to be a decision that comes from a doctor and not him.

David Martin missed practice with flu-like symptoms. He's also dealing with a toe injury. His status is uncertain.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

Dolphins middle linebacker Zach Thomas practiced with the team Wednesday for the first time since he suffered a concussion Sept. 16 in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Coach Cam Cameron said Thomas, who wore a helmet restricter during Wednesday's session to prevent his neck and head from jolting backward on contact, was limited to non-contact drills, although the practice featured hitting for everyone. ...

Cameron said Thomas is lobbying to play but he acknowledged that clearance for Sunday's home game against Oakland will come from the medical staff, and team doctors want the concussion to "run its course."

From ESPN:

The Dolphins are 0-3 and in desperate need of a victory, so he guaranteed one will come this weekend when Miami hosts the Oakland Raiders.

"Write it how you want to write it," Porter said. "We will win on Sunday."

The 'we-will-win' promise is a tactic the often-outspoken Porter used at times during his eight seasons as a lightning rod in Pittsburgh. For whatever reason, the Steelers usually responded.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

Dolphins receiver Chris Chambers, who's off to the best start of his seven-year career, received some good news off the field Tuesday when Charlotte, N.C., prosecutors accepted his plea agreement and will drop charges of impaired and reckless driving.

Chambers' attorney George Laughrun said he would enter a guilty plea for speeding on Chambers' behalf in a hearing today. Chambers doesn't have to appear, so he won't miss practice. Because the more serious charge was dropped, Chambers most likely won't face any further punishment from the Dolphins or NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

As if losing wasn't enough, Brett Favre tied Dan Marino's career TD mark by throwing the 420th touchdown pass of his career. I'd rather he didn't, as a Dolphins fan, but congratulations to him on the accomplishment.

They finally gave Ronnie the ball today and he came up big, setting a career high for yards from scrimmage with 213. He had 112 yards on the ground on 23 carries and 99 yards receiving on 6 catches. He scored 3 times (twice on the ground, once through the air). He also nailed down a 2 point conversion near the end as the Dolphins went with another Statue of Liberty play. When I say he got the ball, I really mean that - he was the only Dolphin to get a rushing attempt. Great game. I hope they keep giving it to him.

Trent had a solid game, too, as he was 23 of 36 with 318 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. His favorite target, along with Ronnie, was Chris Chambers, who had 6 catches for 101 yards. Marty Booker had a solid day, as well, with 60 yards on 3 catches. David Martin had 31 on 3. Ginn had 15 on 1 and looked better return wise, giving the Dolphins solid field position on 2 kick off returns (one of which was called back by a penalty).

Jay Feely was 2 for 2 on field goals, with the longest coming from 39.

In all, the Dolphins offense picked up 168 more yards than the Jets offense, but the Jets had 4 less penalties and held onto the ball for 3 minutes and 40 seconds longer. They took a kick return 98 yards for a touchdown, so that played into them not needing as much offense, as well, certainly. They also won the turnover battle, 1-0.

We had an onside kick at the end, after scoring a TD to get within 3, but we couldn't make it happen. The first attempt was illegally batted by a Jet - we got 10 yards and a re-kick. The second kick was good - a Jet jumped forward and knocked it back to us, but we just didn't have anyone close enough to the ball - Feely got close, but not close enough.

Defensively, Donnie Spragan had 11 tackles, Channing had 9 and Michael Lehan had 7. The Dolphins 1 sack came from Vonnie Holliday.

Next Sunday, we'll play host to the Raiders at 1:00 PM ET.

From Armando Salguero:

''Ronnie may be a different personality,'' Kiick said, ``but if I were advising him, I would tell him to go in and talk to the coach. It doesn't have to be him stomping in and demanding more carries. But he should tell the coach that he wants very badly to contribute more, not because he's thinking of himself, but because he's thinking of the team.''

Dave Hyde talks about a new book called The Water Boy, written by Bob Ackles (with Ian Mulgrew), who was in charge of personnel during Jimmy Johnson's time in Miami.

In it, he has excerpts that describe an event that occurred the day before former Offensive Coordinator Gary Stevens was fired:

"Jimmy was sucking back his beer and eating taco chips with scorching hot salsa. He loved Mexican food. He had a portable television on which he was watching our in-house video of the game. The more he watched, the angrier he got. He watched the start of the play in which Marino tossed an interception (returned for a TD). Jimmy saw the linebacker yelling instructions to the defense, cocking his arm back and forth and Collins moving to the left.

"Jimmy realized the linebacker suspected what Marino was going to do. Suspected? He knew. Sure enough, Collins stepped in front of the ball, intercepted it and sprinted for a touchdown. Jimmy went berserk.

"He'd told Gary about this time and time again. Jimmy lifted up the television, which must have weighed between six and eight pounds. He held it up with one hand and flailed at it with the other, yelling, "(Bad word)! (Bad word)! How many times have I told you?"

From the official site:

Travis Daniels has been lining up at free safety all week in practice after starting at cornerback in the first two games. With Yeremiah Bell out for the season with a torn left Achilles' tendon and Darius questionable, as well as Andre Goodman now cleared to play with his left shoulder better healed from two offseason surgeries, the move was made apparently to shake up a secondary that has been suspect in the two losses.

According to Daniels, Michael Lehan has taken over his spot at right corner, with Will Allen still at the left corner, and Renaldo Hill has moved into the strong safety spot previously occupied by Bell. Capers said there could be a number of different combinations back there, including some formations where Daniels moves back to cornerback.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:

"We've got some tests ongoing," Cameron said. "We think there is a chance he has a slight concussion."

Thomas, 34, who once pondered retirement after suffering a series of concussions early in his 12-year career, told Dolphins coach Cam Cameron that he was "lightheaded with some symptoms," after Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, Cameron said.

Thomas hasn't practiced all week due to migraine headaches, and on Thursday he visited with a neurologist for further evaluation.

From MiamiHerald.com:

''It was hard for me to know there was something wrong with him because he played the whole game,'' teammate Joey Porter said. ``But he kept asking for another mouthpiece. A brand new one is harder. I guess when you have a concussion, if you feel something tight in your mouth, you can't bite down as hard.''

Scary stuff.

Dolphins kicker Jay Feely said he wouldn't want Williams on his team.

"No, I want a locker room full of guys who aren't going to quit on us or fold when it's tough and take the easy way out,'' Feely said. ... "But if Cam and [GM Randy Mueller] decide to bring him back, I'd embrace him as a teammate.''

This game was close for a long time. We were within 1 score until 11:03 left in the 4th quarter when Nick Folk hit a 47 yard field goal from the dirt to pull ahead, 23-13. But, turnovers killed us as Trent Green had a terrible day. He threw 4 picks to go along with 2 touchdowns and 287 yards. He was 23 of 40 in all. Ugly, ugly, ugly.

The running game didn't look any better, really, averaging 2.9 yards a carry. Ronnie had 33 yards on 11 caries. Chambers had 109 yards on 9 catches. Booker had 79 on 4 with a TD. Hagan had 2 on 33 with a TD, including a nice catch on a tipped ball in the end zone in the 4th quarter. They had 352 net yards, we had 334 net yards. The turnovers made all the difference, of course.

Feely was 2 for 2 on field goals with his longest coming from 45. On defense, Zach ha d10 tackles and Crowder had 8. Traylor had a lone sack and we forced exactly 0 turnovers.

To make it worse, they showed a clip of Jason Taylor, before the game, ripping down a Cowboys banner that some fans at field level had hung up. And he appeared to even get into it a bit (verbally) with the fan. It just didn't look good - a bad move on Jason's part.

Just a bad game in all. We are now 0-2 and will be flying heading to New York to face the Jets at 1:00 PM ET next Sunday, September 23.

Funny quote from Zach:

This season, the NFL allowed team captains to wear a "C" on their jerseys, like hockey players. Thomas was one of the first ones voted by his teammates to wear the designation, along with Jason Taylor, Jay Feely and Trent Green.

But Thomas has been voted a team captain going back many years. How long?

"Third grade, man," he joked. "I can't remember back that far."

Edgar Thompson has thoughts from Jay Feely, Chris Chambers and Will Allen on the $500,000 fine handed down by the NFL to Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

Feely said Belichick should have been suspended, especially in light of a five-game suspension and $100,000 fine - nearly a third of his salary - levied on Dallas assistant Wade Wilson for buying human growth hormone to help him combat the effects of diabetes.

"If you're going to suspend another coach, and you said you suspended him because you said coaches would be held to a higher standard, then why wouldn't do that with a head coach?" Feely said Friday. "Why wouldn't you hold him to a higher standard?" ...

"That's a little bit extreme right there," wide receiver Chris Chambers said. "The coach took it on top of the head. I've never seen a fine like that."
