Just when you thought we couldn't find any other way to lose - we go and do it! The field conditions were absolutely terrible thanks to heavy rains that turned the field into slop. It was a sight to behold - during the first half, there were no yardage lines. They managed to streak some white lines at the 5 yard marks during half time, though. The weather led to the game being scoreless until the Steelers' Jeff Reed (who missed on a duck earlier in the game) connected on a 24 yard field goal with 17 seconds left. This was the longest that a game had been scoreless since the 1940s, when a game ended tied at 0 after 4 quarters (there was no overtime). The two teams managed a total of 365 yards combined offense (159 for the Dolphins, 216 for the Steelers). The closest the Dolphins came to scoring was with 11:26 left in the fourth, where they attempted a field goal from the Steelers' 20. The field goal was no good, but there was a delay of game penalty before the snap, allowing the Dolphins to try again from 5 yards back. Coach Cameron elected to go for it on 4th and 11, instead of trying another field goal, and John Beck was blind sided for a sack, fumbling to end the drive. The main difference in this one was probably the running game - the Steelers were able to muster 84 yards on 29 carries while the Dolphins were only able to gain 49 on 23. Jesse Chatman had 11 carries for 17 yards, before leaving the game in pain due to a neck injury after a tough hit. Ricky Williams had 6 carries for 15 yards - all in the first half. He did not start. He was stepped on, hurting his shoulder and ending his day. Patrick Cobbs had 4 carries for 10 yards and... wait for it... didn't get hurt! It's hard to look good in a game like this, so I'll just say that Beck looked fairly solid out there. He seemed composed, making a number of good throws, despite the conditions. Hurt by some drops, he ended 14 of 23 for 132 yards with 1 carry for 8 yards. His favorite target was Marty Booker, who caught 5 passes for 54 yards. Ginn had 3 for 35 and David Martin had 2 for 35. Channing Crowder had 12 tackles and half a sack, Joey Porter (more on him in a moment) had 8 tackles and 1 interception, Rodrique Wright had 7 tackles and half a sack, Michael Lehan had 6 tackles, Jason Allen had 6 tackles, Vonnie Holliday had 5 tackles and a big sack, Jason Taylor had 3 tackles and a sack, Will Allen had 5 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble and Quentin Moses had 1 tackle and 1 sack. Porter had his interception early, near the Steelers bench and he stood there, looking at his former teammates face to face, celebrating the moment. He kept it up the whole game, talking a lot, after what seemed like each and every play. It seemed like they understood and no one really got angry, though I could have done without it. For whatever it's worth, the Dolphins seemed pumped and still in it, trying to win this game. When time expires, though, we're 0-11. Next week, we host the Jets at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday. 11/26: Salguero: Ricky to Start

11/25: Pope Releases Statement
Posted by: Patrick
From Edgar Thompson:
“I didn’t feel well and thought I needed medical attention,” Pope, 25, said in the statement. “Everything checked out and I feel better.
“I appreciate everyone’s concerns. I know our team physicians have been in touch with the hospital medical staff and are satisfied that everything is in order.”

I was just watching Fox's NFL pregame show and Jay Glazer came on and said that Ricky had taken 75% of the snaps with the first team this week and that the team expected him to play "quite a bit" on Monday.

From Jeff Darlington: Pope, who was released from Jackson South Community Hospital shortly after noon, said he was ''fine,'' but that he did not yet want to get into specifics about his problem. Via ESPN. 11/24: Derrick Pope Hospitalized
Posted by: Patrick
From Sun-Sentinel.com:
Dolphins linebacker Derrick Pope missed today's practice because he was taken to the emergency room at Jackson South Community Hospital earlier this morning for unknown reasons. The extent of his injury, if there is one, isn't clear, but the Dolphins are preparing to play in Pittsburgh on Monday without him. "We're gathering information. Obviously Derrick's somebody that we care a lot about. I'll find out more but I don't want to speculate on what the situation is," coach Cam Cameron said after practice. PalmBeachPost.com has quotes from his agent. "I got word from the Dolphins that's what they're trying to say down there in the media. He's fine. People are human beings, and they get sick sometimes. ... "In this situation, I'm telling you it's not anything perverse, without going into any more detail. He's fine." Glad he's fine. Hopefully it's nothing bad and he can get back on the field soon.

Here is an injury update from the official site: All-Pro middle linebacker Zach Thomas (migraine) did not practice and was officially ruled out for Monday night's game, making it the fourth straight week he will be on the sidelines and the sixth overall this season. That surpasses his previous high of five games missed due to an ankle injury in 2000 ... Defensive end Matt Roth (groin) also did not practice and is being listed as doubtful ... Running back Jesse Chatman (ankle) and nose tackle Keith Traylor (ankle) were limited and Chatman is listed as questionable while Traylor is probable ... For the Steelers, wide receiver Santonio Holmes (ankle) and safety Troy Polamalu (knee) both did not practice and have been ruled out ... Linebacker LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) participated in a full practice but is listed as questionable ... Defensive end Brett Keisel (shoulder) and cornerback Deshea Townsend (ankle) also practiced in full and are listed as probable ... Offensive tackle Marvel Smith (coach's decision) participated in full and was left off of the doubtful/questionable/probable lists.
11/23: Ginn Wins Rookie of the Week

From the official site:
Dolphins wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. was named the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for games played on November 18-19.

From Sun-Sentinel.com:
Cameron's name has appeared in two Detroit papers in a laundry list of potential candidates to replace departing coach Lloyd Carr, who resigned on Monday.
"I'm the head football coach of the Miami Dolphins. This is the place that I am and I'm committed to getting this place turned around, period," Cameron said.

Armando Salguero and Omar Kelly report that Jesse Chatman is hobbled and limited in practice drills. Salguero says it's a right ankle sprain and Kelly says it's a left leg injury. The official site just calls it an ankle injury.
Anyway, Patrick Cobbs stepped in and took first team snaps while Ricky took second team and Lorenzo Booker took third team. We have 6 days until the game, though, so Chatman could improve.

You can vote Ted Ginn as the Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week for his efforts in last Sunday's contest with the Eagles. At the time of writing, he is in second place with 34%, trailing Dwayne Bowe by just 2%.

The first start of John Beck's career was probably what could be expected, but certainly not what we had hoped for. He was ineffective, going 9 for 22 with 109 passing yards. On the plus side, he avoided the big mistakes (though, there were some close calls ) and did not get sacked. Besides that, many of his throws were simply off the mark - too high, behind the receiver, etc. His favorite target was Ted Ginn, who had 4 catches for 52 yards. Justin Peelle had 2 for 27. Jesse Chatman was fairly effective, rushing for 72 yards on 22 carries. We won the turnover battle 3-0, but our offense simply couldn't get anything done and we ended up punting 7 times. We also did a good job on penalties, limiting ourself to 3 resulting in 15 yards, while the Eagles had 4 for 40. The Dolphins lone score came on a Ted Ginn 89 yard punt return. Yes, he finally ran one back - with no flags! It was good to see - he made a couple guys miss, got a couple blocks and took it all the way. It was the longest punt return in Dolphins history. Defensively, Jason Allen had a great day, intercepting two Donovan McNabb passes early and finishing with 5 tackles. McNabb was knocked out of the game in the first half, after being held to just 3 of 11 for 34 yards passing. His replacement was former Dolphin A.J. Feeley, who had a solid outing, going 13 for 19 for 116 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Andre Goodman had the other pick to go along with a tackle. Channing Crowder had 12 tackles while Joey Porter and Cameron Worrell each had 7. Jay Feely missed his only field goal attempt, a 47 yarder near the end of the first quarter. Not too much to say. We've lost 13 games straight now. Hopefully this experience serves Beck well. We now head to Pittsburgh to face the top ranked defense in football. It'll be our first Monday Night game in quite a while - 8:30 PM ET on ESPN. 11/18: Week 11: Dolphins at Eagles

Barry Jackson reports that former NFL quarterbacks Phil Simms, Ron Jaworski and Steve Young are expecting good things from John Beck.
''He's going to be very good,'' Jaworski said off the air. ``I like him a lot. One thing I look for is do they make throws that project to the NFL. I saw those throws in Beck. Quick release, strong arm, moves well in the pocket.''
Simms -- who rated Beck ahead of Trent Edwards and Drew Stanton -- said, ``I watched every one of Beck's throws his senior year. The things I like? He can throw off-balance, can change his delivery, get the ball out of his hands [quickly]. I think he'll be fine.''
