Omar Kelly reports that the Dolphins have signed three former Cowboys, none of which are seen as likely to make the actively roster. All three of the new additions - former North Carolina quarterback Matt Baker, offensive lineman Trey Darilek, and outside linebacker/defensive end Junior Glymph - were a part of the Cowboys organization when new Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland ran Dallas' scouting department.
01/29: Marino Wines
Posted by: Patrick
From Andy Kent:
Looking ever so dapper in his suit and with a glass of his own wine in his left hand, former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino on Monday introduced his latest venture designed to benefit children with developmental disabilities connected to the Dan Marino Foundation at his restaurant in south Miami.
The official launch of these specially blended Vintage 13 wines from Marino Estates was the result of a team effort among Marino, Charity Wines and Charity Hop, and judging by the reaction of those in attendance, the project seems destined for success, especially with Publix Supermarkets signing on as a major retailer and the fact that the Vintage 13 wines will be available at all of Marino's restaurants in Florida. The principles of Charity Wines and Charity Hop have plenty of previous success to fall back on, having raised over $400,000 in 2007 through the same initiative with baseball stars Manny Ramirez and Curt Schilling of the Boston Red Sox and football stars Drew Brees and Bobby Hebert of the New Orleans Saints, but Marino's is the biggest name to date.

From the official site:
The Miami Dolphins today named John Bonamego as their special teams coordinator, George DeLeone as their tight ends coach, David Puloka as assistant strength and conditioning coach, Jim Reid as outside linebackers coach and Steve Bush as offensive quality control coach.

From Omar Kelly:
According to an NFL source, the Saints are working feverishly to retain quarterbacks coach Pete Carmichael Jr., who was offered the Dolphins offensive coordinator position over the weekend.
The possibility that Carmichael Jr., who was pursued last year by then head coach Cam Cameron for the same job, will turn down the Dolphins for the second straight year has prompted the team's decision makers to continue the search, exploring other candidates to run the offense.

Hal Habib takes an interesting look back at Super Bowl VII, specifically the days leading up to it. Trash talk? That's no recent invention, either. Most entertaining was Dolphins cornerback Lloyd Mumphord saying Redskins QB Billy Kilmer's weak arm might give him a chance to pick off a few, to which Kilmer retorted that if Mumphord liked catching his passes so much, he was welcome to try out next season for the 'Skins as a wide receiver.
Controversy? On the eve of the game, a handful of Dolphins, mostly backups grumbling over playing time, admitted this probably was their Miami swan song. Receiver Otto Stowe said when he talked to Shula, "I didn't say 'play me or trade me,' I just said 'trade me.' I don't want to play for Miami, period." After 1972-73, he didn't. Weirdness, we got your weirdness: A couple of Redskins beating on their hotel TV because it couldn't pick up the UHF station that carried Sesame Street. ... A bar in Broward with a voodoo doll of Kilmer (proving that Allen needed to worry about his QB's protection). ... A nun named Sister Stephanie Distefano, from Akron, Ohio, boasting a 62 percent success rate, picking the Dolphins. ... And Allen hiring a "sun scout" to chart the angles of the rays hitting the Los Angeles Coliseum. 01/27: Dolphins Hire George DeLeone

Jeff Darlington reports that the Dolphins have hired George DeLeone as an offensive assistant, but doesn't specify his role further.

From Barry Jackson:
Before former Dolphins receivers coach Terry Robiskie was fired, he offered this unusual spin on receiver Derek Hagan: 'The biggest thing is for him to get married. Single guys don't have the focus of married guys. He's focusing on the rims of his car, on `Am I Cingular or T-Mobile?' and other things that are so irrelevant. He's got too many focuses.'' OK then.

From Barry Jackson:
Quarterback Daunte Culpepper -- mentioned by ESPN's Chris Mortensen as a free agent possibility for Miami -- said he would ''love'' to play again for the Dolphins. ''I live here, and I love [Bill Parcells],'' Culpepper said Tuesday at Alonzo Mourning's charity event. ``And I'm healthy now.'' Not that I think he absolutely couldn't help us (I didn't like how we handled his release), but we've had our fill.

From Omar Kelly: According to an NFL source, the Dolphins have offered the offensive coordinator job to Pete Carmichael Jr., who has spent the past two seasons as the Saints' quarterback coach, and New Orleans special teams coordinator John Bonamego has accepted the same position with the Dolphins.

The official site reports that the Dolphins have hired Paul Pasqualoni (defensive coordinator), Todd Bowles (assistant head coach/secondary coach), Kacy Rodgers (defensive line coach) and David Corrao (defensive quality control coach).
Corrao was the linebackers coach for the University of Mississippi in 2007. The Sports Network reports that the Dolphins have also named Jim Reid, the head coach for the Virginia Military Institute, linebackers coach.

Sun-Sentinel.com reports that Channing Crowder was in a one car accident early Wednesday on the Florida turnpike. According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, Crowder said he was tired, lost control on the wet ramp and struck a tree. He also stated that he fled the scene because he did not want to wait in the rain, and got a ride home. Crowder was issued a citation for careless driving — a moving infraction — and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, which is a second-degree misdemeanor.
01/24: Cameron Hired by Ravens
Posted by: Patrick
Former Dolphins coach Cam Cameron has been hired by the Baltimore Ravens to be their offensive coordinator.

Omar Kelly reports on a flurry of activity on the Dolphins coaching staff.
James Saxon (the Chiefs running backs coach since 2001) has been hired as our running backs coach. He was an NFL full back that played with the Dolphins from 1992 through 1994. I think I remember him, actually. Evan Marcus was hired as the strength and conditioning coach. Todd Bowles (set to become defensive backs coach and assistant head coach) and Kacy Rodgers (defensive line) have informed Dallas that they are coming to Miami. Kelly also cites an NFL source in saying that another Dallas assistant (and former Syracuse coach), Paul Pasqualoni, will be hired as the team's defensive coordinator.

From Tim Graham:
Dolphins football operations chief Bill Parcells and General Manager Jeff Ireland have reached out to Green to express their interest in his return.
"There have been conversations about Trent returning, pending his health issues," Green's agent, Jim Steiner, said Monday night. "The conversations are just getting started, and they will be ongoing for quite some time.

Last week, the Dolphins named Mike Maser to be the offensive line coach.
Most recently Maser held the same post with the Carolina Panthers from 2003-06. During that span, the Panthers compiled a regular season record of 37-27 and made two trips to the NFC Championship Game, in 2003 and 2005, and appeared in Super Bowl XXXVII. Under Maser, the Panthers offensive line consistently ranked among the league’s best despite injuries and personnel moves requiring at least two changes among the group annually during his four years in Carolina. The Panthers’ offensive line allowed only 119 sacks under Maser, which represents the sixth-best figure in the league during that span. In 2003, Carolina rushed for 2,091 yards and allowed only 26 sacks, still the best figures respectively in franchise history. Related to the coaching staff, Ethan J. Skolnick and Omar Kelly report that, according to sources, former NFL head coach and offensive coordinator Dan Hennings has become a leading candidate to take the offensive coordinator post in Miami.
