03/29: PhinsBlog.com Closing
Posted by: Patrick
Hello, I am sure that this may come as a surprise, but I have decided to close PhinsBlog.com. We launched on June 6, 2006 (06/06/06). I'm a huge, lifelong Miami Dolphins fan and that's why I decided to start a Miami Dolphins fan blog. Since that date, we have blogged about the Miami Dolphins from a fan's perspective, through two losing seasons, including 2007, the worst season in franchise history. In these two years, the Dolphins won less games than any other two year span in the team's history (except for 1966 and 1967, the first two years, when they also had 7 wins - but, in 4 less games). It's been a rough couple of years, but we've toughed it out and blogged about every game. Dolphins fans have reason to be optimistic. We have new leadership, it's a new season and we have the top draft choice. Everything is starting over and we'll get another chance. We may be a few seasons away from putting together a contender, but in the NFL, you never know. I'll always be a Dolphins fan. During this time, I've watched pretty much every minute of every game. I have found that I enjoy watching the games as a fan and enjoying them in that sense, more than I do having to write about them after they are over. So, that is really what is leading me to close the blog, at this time. The site will remain open for comments for a little longer. After they are closed, the site will remain online for a while until some point in the future, when I take it offline completely. I plan to keep the domain name and, perhaps, down the road, we may give this another try. I'm sorry to close the site so abruptly. I would like to thank everyone who has supported this site by reading it, linking to it or commenting. I have appreciated it and do appreciate it. Thank you for reading and for visiting PhinsBlog.com. Go Dolphins! Sincerely, Patrick 03/29: Safety Chris Crocker Visits
Posted by: Patrick
From Omar Kelly:
On Friday the Dolphins hosted former Falcons starting safety Chris Crocker, and a source confirmed he's been offered a one-year contract he'll likely accept. The NFL Network reported the deal is worth $1.15 million, with $300,000 of it guaranteed.
Crocker, 28, is entering his sixth season in the NFL, and has started 52 games throughout his career.

Armando Salguero reports the following quote from Jason Taylor: "I would trade our 53 for Tom Brady," Taylor said. "I would trade our entire roster for Tom Brady." I understand that he may have been making a point here, but... that's just not the way you should go about it. 03/19: Raonall Smith Visits
Posted by: Patrick
From the official site: The Miami Dolphins today played host to unrestricted free agent linebacker Raonall Smith from the St. Louis Rams.
Originally a second-round draft choice of the Minnesota Vikings in 2002, Smith, a six-year veteran, Smith played in four games for the Rams in 2007 before suffering a knee inury which cost him the remainder of the season. In 2006, Smith played in all 16 games for the Rams and recorded 24 tackles and 1.5 sacks on defense. In 2005, he finished second on team with 21 special teams tackles. 03/19: O.J. Brigance Fighting ALS
Posted by: Patrick
From Tim Graham: Medical data says O.J. Brigance probably has another year or two left. He doesn't agree with the cold facts, doesn't seem to care he's gradually being overtaken by an opponent as undefeated as death itself. Brigance has faith he will be the first person to beat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the incurable neuromuscular disorder commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Graham also has a blog entry where he talks about how you can help. Very sad. Mr. Brigance and those around him will be in my thoughts. 03/16: Dolphins Sign Tab Perry
Posted by: Patrick
Tim Graham reports that, according to a source, the Dolphins have signed Tab Perry to a one year deal, for just under a million dollars. Perry was an unrestricted free agent after playing three years with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he also was a reserve receiver. Perry, who is 6-foot-3 and 208 pounds, has battled numerous injuries since an impressive rookie campaign in which he set the club record with 1,562 kickoff return yards and scored two offensive touchdowns - one rushing, one receiving - despite having only seven touches.
03/15: Pope Heads to Minnesota
Posted by: Patrick
The AP reports that former Dolphins linebacker Derrick Pope has signed with the Vikings.
Posted by: Patrick
Tim Graham reports has plead guilty to public drunkiness and paid a fine of $182.
03/14: Nathan Jones Signed
Posted by: Patrick
From the official site:
The Miami Dolphins today signed four-year veteran cornerback Nathan Jones, to a two-year contract as an unrestricted free agent from the Dallas Cowboys.
The 25-year-old Jones was a seventh-round draft choice of Dallas in 2004. In his four seasons with the Cowboys, he played in 51 regular season games, including one start. He collected 58 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles on defense. He also stood out on special teams, where he totaled 26 tackles.

Omar Kelly reports that former Cowboys cornerback Nathan Jones visited with the team today.
Jones, 25, has experience playing both cornerback and safety in the NFL and contributed 23 tackles (19 solo), one sack, and one forced fumble in 2007.
He was primarily used as a blitzer in the nickel package last season, and in that role Jones contributed five quarterback hurries.

The Dolphins have signed kicker Dave Rayner and safety Keith Davis. While Rayner is looked at as a kickoff specialist, Tim Graham suggests that he may be more competition for Feely than you would think, due in part to Feely's talkative nature.

The Tennessean reports that the Dolphins are among teams that "appear" to be interested in trading for the very troubled Adam "Pacman" Jones. Armando Salguero says that this isn't happening.
03/13: Chatman Signs with Jets
Posted by: Patrick
On March 9, the Jets announced that they signed former Dolphins running back Jesse Chatman.
03/13: Back
Posted by: Patrick
I'm back from SXSW, so things will now return to normal. Sorry for the lack of posts.
03/06: Light Posting
Posted by: Patrick
Through March 14, posting figures to be light (perhaps, there will not be any posts) as I will be attending South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive in Austin, Texas. I have a book reading for my upcoming book, "Managing Online Forums" on the Day Stage at the Austin Convention Center on March 11 at 11:00 AM. So, by some odd chance, if you happen to be attending - please stop by.
I'll be around, but I am guessing that I will not find much time to post. I apologize, in advance, for this slow time. Thank you for visiting PhinsBlog.com.

Updating a previous story, the Dolphins have officially brought back Michael Lehan on a four year deal (not three years as had been reported).
03/05: Dolphins Sign Boomer Grigsby
Posted by: Patrick
Edgar Thompson reports that the Dolphins have signed former Chiefs fullback Boomer Grigsby. He spends most of his time on special teams.
Posted by: Patrick
From Omar Kelly:
After spending the first few days of free agency targeting potential starters, the Dolphins have apparently turned their attention to upgrading the special teams unit, which last season was among the worst in the NFL.
According to a source, former Bengals receiver Tab Perry and former Chiefs fullback Boomer Grigsby are visiting with the Dolphins, and both could receive an offer based on special teams play.

ESPN reports that Yeremiah Bell has been resigned to a one year deal. Meanwhile, the Sun Sentinel reports that Greg Camarillo was tendered (1 year, $445,000) before the February 28 deadline. 03/03: Pace Picks Jets
Posted by: Patrick
Armando Salguero reports that Calvin Pace has decided to go with the Jets.
The Jets stepped up this afternoon, increasing the amount of guaranteed money they were prepared to give Pace from about $19.5 million to $22 million. I am told the Dolphins also reached the $20 million mark but were unwilling to go as high as New York.

Bill Parcells told Chris Mortensen that Jason Taylor will not be traded. He will play for the Dolphins if he plays for anyone. "This latest report is just another example of journalistic irresponsibility," Parcells said.
Posted by: Patrick
The Dolphins announced the signing of Charlie Anderson along with Josh McCown, Justin Smiley, Randy Starks and Reggie Torbor.
03/01: Pace Not Yet Signed
Posted by: Patrick
Despite previous reports, the Miami Herald reports that Calvin Pace has not yet signed with the Dolphins, though it's sounding favorable. Of eight known free agents who visited South Florida on Friday, only one of them (linebacker Calvin Pace) did not agree to terms of a contract. Instead, Pace said he would wait until after he visited the New York Jets to decide. But Pace sounded like he was leaning toward Miami. ''I love it,'' Pace said of the Dolphins. ``I'm feeling it. You know Parcells, he's going to win wherever he goes. We'll see, man. I might be lining up on the other side of [Miami defensive end] Jason Taylor.'' Via Sean Fowler. |
