10/22: Dolphins Lose to Packers 34-24
Posted by: Patrick
To 1-6 we go with a 34-24 loss at home against Green Bay today. If Favre catches Dan Marino's win record this season, we may just have ourselves to blame. Joey Harrington threw the ball 62 times. That's not a typo. Six two. He was 33 of 62 for 414 yards, 2 TDs and 3 INTs (1 of which was McMichael's fault - the other one was too far away from him to blame him). Favre wasn't that great either, but he managed to avoided any INTs. The Dolphins had chances, but didn't capitalize. Ronnie ran it 15 times for 59 yards, an average of 3.9 yards per carry. He also had 5 catches for 63 yards. The Dolphins receivers continued to drop balls. Marty Booker had 7 catches for 110 yards and 1 TD (as well as a couple of notable miscues). McMichael had 7 catches for 77 yards and had some miscues of his own. Derek Hagan had 53 yards on 5 catches and his first NFL TD. Congratulations to him. (Yes, yes, he had miscues as well - I don't want to talk about it). Sammy Morris made a huge catch, creatively maneuvering for 44 yards. He fumbled at the end of the play, but it went out of bounds. Wes had 6 catches for 38. Mare hit from field goals of 32, 40 and 45. Our last opportunity was late in the 4th quarter where we had a 47 yard field goal to go down 7 and try for an onside kick. It was up... and good. But, we somehow got a delay of game penalty. Unforgivable, really. This put him at 52 yards. He hit the left up right and it bounced down to the end zone. No good. Speaking of field goals, we had an odd development at the end of the 2nd. The Packers kicker, Dave Rayner, was attempting a 55 yard field goal to end the half. It would have been a Packers record. Up and good. But, wait, Zach Thomas gets called for unsportsmanlike conduct for shifting the defensive line right before the snap (not sure if I've ever seen that before). Since it was before the play, there is no play. So, it's a 15 yard penalty and the field goal is now a 40 yarder. Here's the snap and ... it's good. But, wait, a Packer player face masked a Dolphin, bringing it back to a 55 yarder. But, no, they talk and decide that the clock has expired and an offensive penalty does not buy you another attempt. So, no field goal. Channing Crowder had 7 tackles and 4 assists. Jason Taylor had 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. That all happened in the first quarter. One of the fumbles was recovered, the other was not. The recovered one (David Bowens) gave us red zone field position which we capitalized on by scoring a touchdown. Next week, we have a bye. Thanks for the comment. It's hard to say. But, I'm not giving up on Saban at this point. We need to give him a few seasons and see where we are.
